Hello guys, I just registered to the forums, because I have been having a problem with recording, and I was unable to find help anywhere else. Here is a little idea of what I need help with. I am a dj, and I just purchased a new dj mixer which has a built in sound card which allows you to record via USB cable. Alright I am using audacity to record (I also tried adobe audition trial), and I have my USB channel (on the mixer) gain set at around 12 oclock, High frequency set to 12 oclock, Low frequency set to 12 oclock, and the master level set to about 3 oclock (to get some volume). I have my software input and output both set to USB codec as required by the users manual, and everything is connected as required by the manual. I have all the default settings in both of the software I tried. My recordings sound HORRIBLE it sounds like I have all knobs turned up and it sounds like my speakers are going to explode, but the volume is not loud at all. I emailed the mixer company and they forwarded me to another place which was not able to help me. They mentioned something about gain clipping, but did not offer any help on how to fix it. I will try to attach a audio clip of what is happening, and if anybody can help me it would be MUCH appreciated, because I have tried everything, and asked in so many different places, and no body can help me. Oh one last thing, the company told me it does NOT sound like a hardware problem, so I am hoping that I will not be needing to return my mixer.

Damn it does not allow me to link to the sound file or attach it. :-\ any suggestions?

Thank you guys in advance. If I have posted this in the wrong forum please feel free to move it to where it belongs.

From what you say, I'd agree . . . it doesn't sound like a hardware problem.

It sounds more like a gain staging problem.

Try dropping the gain on the USB channel.

I tried dropping the gain on the mixer itself, and that was no help. I am assuming I have to drop it in the software, but I have looked thru the software, and I am unable to find the gain settings.

Thanks for the links guys, let me look and see if I can figure this out.
