Hey, heres some song we did a long time ago. If you wanna check it out and lemme know what can be improved (alot, yes yes I know this) that would be cool.

The things that stick out to me are: No words (kinda obvious, it also makes the song seem kinda long and repetitive) stronger bass kicks, snare seems kinda muddied.

Songs called Illusion. Thanks in advance for the review and ideas.

Hey King

Good tune. I really like the change to slowdown - good clean guitar sound.

I think it would liven up the snare, and also the toms, if you put some reverb and maybe a bit of delay on them. It's a good drum part, just needs a little life. I agree that the kick drum could be more up front.

THe bass sounds a bit muddy, especially when its doing the unison lick with the guitar which is going pretty fast. Maybe a pick bass there would add some definition.

Can't wait to hear some vocals - does the song have lyrics, or are you just working on the tune for now??

Hey Mutt,

Thanks for the listen and the comments. We're working on lyrics, but dont really have anyong to sing as of the moment. Its tough findin a decent singer.

The song is in process, and the chorus has since been changed cause I didnt like the guitar part at all, so its something heavier now. This recording was done a while back, and I think we might get to recording it over spring break which is upcoming. I thought Id try and get some advice from some of you guys before we rerecord.

The bass is a Roland MC505 or something, that top notch Roland Groove box. Its hard addin bass that way. A real bass guitar would make that job easier I think.

Thanks for the listen and the advice. We'll try and encorporate those ideas in the reworked recording when we get around to it.

I think the drums should have more power to them throughout, more like you've got goin in the last minute of the song. Using some reverb on them would make them seem bigger too. definitely some more snap to the snare, and attack on the kicker. The guitar sound is nice, basically I would just write some more riffs, pretty much begging for some sort of lead or solo of sorts to spice it up. Nothing cheesy, just a nice complimentary lead to match the vibe. Vocalwise it seems like it would be something helmetish but it would be nice to hear a more original approach. Pretty cool for what it is though, minus the repetitiveness you mentioned. Consider gettin somebody to do the vocals via the net maybe if you don't have any other options? I'm very diverse, for one.

Well keep up the good work.

I liked it! What everybody says 'bout bringing out the
drums and defining the bass.
You got a "Edgar Winter" type shit goin' down and it's slammin'!!!!

Yeah, those drums need a more distinct sound, and that bass would work if it had a little bit of its own space in the mix....I liked the guitar sound a lot, though......

Maybe Chris Issak is up to doing vox for you.......:D.....gibs....:D

Haha. Hey thanks for listening and comin back with some positive feedback.

Drums definately need to be more prevalent. They are just lacking overall, theres no force to them.

Yes. Chris Issak. I love that dude. :)

Hey, have any of you guys had trouble downloading or playing any of the stuff off mp3.com lately, mine or otherwise? Some people have been telling me that they try and download the song and they just get a page of nonesense symbols and jargon. You guys reporting any trouble?

Also, whats the deal over at mp3.com? Ive heard they might be going under? Could this have anything to do with why its taking them forever to approve my songs to add to my page?

Hey, KingZilch, Chris Isaak's getting his own show on... HBO, I think. Maybe Showtime. It looked interesting, and with all the other stuff they've been making (as far as episodic stuff), it may be worth looking into if you don't have cable yet...

Oh, can you even GET cable where you're at?

Cool, I just figured out how to jump on someone else's computer up here at work... :D

And they have a soundcard! So I listened to your song, have these comments:

1) Floor tom (?) is panned far left, maybe could come back a bit towards center. If it's not left, don't blame me, not my setup...

2) Drums seem very forward. I don't think this is a volume issue, perhaps more of a reverb and delay issue. Have you tried delaying the drums about 8 ms and putting a bit of reverb on 'em? They had the ring of cardboard on the speakers I heard them on (you know, the little triangley speakers you get for $4 at BigLotsor other closeout store)

3) The vocals need to come WAAAY up, buddy. :D

4) I like the phlange on the guitar, and while I generally don't like metal, I dug the sound of the two "rhythm" guitars.

5) Cymbals need SOMETHING. I dunno, maybe compression to elongate their decay or an EQ fix. Like I said, dunno.

Dig it. Been waiting to hear what you play for a while. What DO you play, btw?

Hey king,

I finally listened....I think I know what sound you were going for on the drums and they're almost there. Maybe just a tad too upfront...the snare could use just a little more bite...the kick was ok I thought...but the toms were really cheap sounding.

There was a bass guitar? I'm listening through headphones and I honestly don't hear one...just some low tones that are kind of "there"...I thought it was just from the guitar.

Listening again I'm thinking that maybe if the bass was simply turned up and the guitar & drums were left to their current proportions, you might be on to something.

I really really like the change at the end. Very nice job there.

This recording is 1000X better than what I remember hearing from you in the past. Get some vocals in there!

Slackmaster 2000

Cool cool, thanks for the listen.

Slack - Which change up at the end are u referring to? The change to clean tone?

I totally hear ya about the 'cheap' tom sound. Man it kills me too. But thats what ya get with shoddy drums. Toms are a bitch. The kick drum sound is totally NOT what were lookin for, thats gonna be totally improved. We have since gotten a Beta52 and a Valley Comp/Gate. Were lookin for a real in your face chest poundin sound...I wanna feel my internal organs shaking when I listen to this with subs.

Haha, hey Kelly - 'Sound of Cardboard'...dude I surprised you can hear that but some of the drums had a really bad rining sound too them that was horridly bad, so we taped the edges, which eliminated the ring, but sorta killed everything else in the process. But you are correct, the drum sound needs improving.

Cymbals...ya no doubt. The mics for heads on that were too real bad Radio Shack mics I believe....we now have 4 Crown CM700's....Im pumped.

The bass on the song was from a Roland MC505. So theres not REALLY a bass guitar, you are right, its more like bass tones. It could be better.

Thanks again for the listen guys. Your comments will be very useful when we get around to rerecording. Thanks.

Hi. I downloaded this you've got some cool riffs going on here. I think vocals would make this track really good. Yeah i agree the drums could sound better, they could do with some reverb especially at aroud 4 minutes they sound very dry there. This track has a drive to it, i like it. Are you planning to add vocals??

You have a nice sound on the clean flange guitar that works well.

Nick

ok King.. I'm drunk as hell.. but I have some things to say..

1.. Guitars are pretty thin.. Gotta add some punch to 'em
2.. Bass is pretty abscent.. There's big hole between the bass and the guitars.. gotta fill that up..
3.. Drums sound a bit dull.. Might be mics, might be pre-amps or sumthin.. but they need some life to them..
4.. Very nice riffing. The song has potential.. Don't foget how to play it...

;-)

/ over and out :-)

You might be dunk, but you nailed that one...go to bed...BTW King, the song rocks.....hope you get to rerecord it soon....

No go on recrecord. Son of a b. Had everything set up and ready to go and I had to bail to Vegas on short notice. We did get a new drum set tho, some new Ludwigs. Recording will be done during May now.

Raindrops - Vocals are in the works. Its hard to find someone to sing that fits our liking.

Thanks for comments. They will all be incorporated when we get around to recording again. Thanks.

Hey King,

Great tune. What everyone else said. Drums do sound like cardboard.

Maybe attenuate the eq at 250 cycles on the drums and bass that should really help.

I liked the guitar break. Maybe you need better monitors, so you can hear what the rest of us seem to hear.

Would love to hear what you do with this one.

Good work.

Got all the right vibe. I think previous comments said it--some creative EQ will really set this one off. Good work!

Hey GT and Tapehead. Thanks for listening and sending some comments this way. I really do appreciate it. Im anxoius to try and rerecord our stuff and encorporate all these ideas.

You are right, monitors would be good. Thats probably part of the problem. We listen to playback through some Cambridge Soundworks home stereo speakers. Not the greatest. Kinda gets the job done sometimes but I would really like to listen to this through some nice monitors to hear what you all are hearing. That would add an entire new perspective.

Again thanks for the comments. Will let u know when stuff is redone.
