Yup, saw that one ... made me salivate! :D

It'd be interesting to note the ending price. ;)

as an aside ..... do you know how many ips a 45 LP turns (once around) and whether speed is as important to vinyl as is for tape ? Silly question ... perhaps ... :o

Sorry, I meant 33 RPM ...... but my question was pretty silly I think .... All I was trying to ask was how speed of tape compares to vinyl ....

Tascams grow on trees here,...

or so I've heard!..............;)

I've got the black panel GX-77... I bought new in '87. I couldn’t part with it though. It is a beauty.

Below not my actual GX, but a good likeness. ;)

Those are nice. How much did you pay for it originally ?

I don't remember exactly -- $600.00 something. I paid less for it than that auction. I remember it was being discontinued and was a closeout price.

I was an Air Force brat, so I bought it at the USAF Base Exchange, which was always less expensive than "The Outside." And no sales tax. :)

I guess it goes to show that certain pieces of "obsolete" gear could conceivably still make manufacturers a lot of money. ;)

Btw, what was your job while in the USAF ... or is that still classified ? :D ;)

I was just my father's son. :) He was a 25-year military man. I was a dependant... that's why they called us military brats. We had all the benefits, free medical & dental, BX and commissary privileges, dirt-cheap flight lessons, horseback riding, dirt-cheap movies at two theaters, and four different swimming pools… lots of cool stuff on an Air Force base, but we had no obligations or responsibilities like the enlisted personnel. It was a good life. :)

It surely does matter, that's why people buy singles - faster speed (45 or 78 ips)= better quality.

Yeah, that AKAI reel obviously came out of the box with that NOS tape deck.

I've not seen a lot of AKAI metal 7" reels, but a few years ago I got about 10 brand new (NOS/in sealed box) Maxell 7" empty takeup reels, for about $7~$10/ea.

;)
