Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and pretty new to the world of recording. I picked up an MR8 about 2 months a go and have started recording. What a learning experience this has been! Well anyways, I love this little peice of Fostex gear. It's ridiculously easy to use, affordable (hey, we all love that!) and it can do professional studio quality recordings. My only gripe is the fact that compact flash media is very pricey and doesn't seem to hold that much compared to the price of a new HD, but eventually price will come down I hope. Anyways, I purchased a 512 CF card because with that 128 you could literally burp into the mic and it would eat up all the space. I ordered a card that was listed and reccommended by Fostex's website. The card was a Higawara-Sys 512 Super Z Pro. Everything worked fine up until I started to record more than one track, at which during some point of recording a error message like this would pop up:

FILE ERR: 1000
ERROR: 10
Press Enter Key

After that, the recording would end and when you listen to it during playback it would skip out at the point where the error occured. I tried bouncing both tracks just to see if it would work, and sure enough I recieved the same error when trying to bounce tracks 1-6 to tracks 7/8. Obviously at this point, I was more than a little upset after spending over $180 for graham cracker memory storage and then to have it suddenly not work. After doing a little research @ this forum and Fostex's website and user forum, I checked my software version on my MR8 and found out that my OS was still running at v1.01 ! Some other users with different cards reported error problems similar to mine and did OS updates which resolved the problem. I downloaded the newest version of the Fostex MR8, v1.10 at the time of this writing, updated my OS and tried doing my recording again. Sure enough, it worked w/o any kind of errors. I tried boucning the tracks and it also worked w/o error as well. So far the problem has stayed away so I hope this was the fix for it. If anyone else is experiencing random scary errors, try updating to the latest OS. I assume Fostex has added compatability support for more CF cards through-out the updates.

Thanks for your time,
-Dave-
