Anyone have any suggestions of adding to my gear collection? I would also like to get a drum machine that has more "real" drum sounds, like from acoustic drums. So far I haven't really heard anything to great in this category but then I haven't looked extremely hard either. Something that is relatively easy to program as well, which I won't spend hours digging thru a manual trying to figure out how to do the simplest things, I hate that! (I love my ER-1 for this reason)I dig deep, fat, analog leads, pads and strings. Here is a list of stuff I already own:

Korg MicroKorg, Yamaha CS1x, Korg ER-1.

My secret weapon is a DX-200. The AN-200 is fine but a little bland for my taste. With the DX-200 you get a 16 voice FM synth with a very good sounding filter as well as sampled drum sounds. My DX-200 really comes into its own when I have it set up as a whacky percussion box and can drop it in and out of a mix...
 
And if you can possibly hang onto the CS1x, do it. I took next to nothing for mine and have spent the last few years regretting it --- the CS2x is NOT an advancement in any way, as I can woefully testify. The CS6x, on the other hand, is one that I would LOVE to get my grubby little paws on.

Have you had a chance to play with the lil' Ion?

YES! I was actually thinking of purchasing an AN-200 but now that I just recieved my korg EM-1 (which I haven't had much time to play with yet but I can already tell it is one POWERFUL, versatile unit) I have no need for one. I have heard of the DX-200, and contemplated buying one but I have yet to come across any of them. I have seen one on eBay but it was located in the U.K. and the price was getting to steep. After reading your post, it makes me want to go get one even more :mad: Does the dx-200 classify as a more "realistic" drum machine, or one that sounds something more like a techno-synthy type of drum box like a mc303 ? Does it have more acoustic drum sounds? I would think that it would, being based on Yamaha's FM synthesis engine.
 
It does have some sounds that could qualify as acoustic, but that's not what I mostly use it for. I use it for whacked percussion and do some remote midi parameter changing for filter sweeps, tuning wipes and other such nice, pleasant easy listening things. I never really listened to the AN-200 beyond having the two units side by side @ GC and being blown away by the DX.

You'll find the EM-1 to be a fine flexible tool. It was my favorite of the first generation of Electribes, having owned the ER-1 and ES-1 --- had an EA-1 on loan for an extended period too...

How about some real analog? Chances are you've never heard the difference between that and VA, and the difference is HUGE.

Real analog? You mean something like a nord lead, or a moog ? I would LOVE to own a real analog synth however that stuff costs upwards and over $1,000. I have so much other stuff to buy like mic's, mic pre's, hardware to finish off my DAW that an analog synth just doesn't fit in the picture right now. The key words being "right now." Eventually, when I can rake in some more $$$$ I'm sure I would invest in something like that however right now it's difficult for me to do so. Besides, the moogerfooger effects processor I was eyeballing is completely analog so it's not like I'll be without and it also is well under the 1000 dollar price range :cool:
