Heres a sample of some homereccer mics with Presonus MP20 preamps... except overheads were through John Hardys... this is John Rices stuff..
Here is the signal chain :

Mics -> Audix TR-40 spaced omni pair mics
Mic pres -> John Hardy M-1
Converter -> Lucid AD9624
Recording Interface -> MOTU 2408 MkI optical spdif in to Cubase 5 on a PC
*close mics are as follows :
snare ( top ) - Beyer M201
bass ( inside 2" from head ) - Audio Technica ATM25
Toms - a Marshall MXL 2001p each
Rotos - AKG D3400
Hihat - Marshall MXL 603s
Ride - Marshall MXL 603s

And drum overheads alone, nothing else...

I like the fox hunt song. Drum solo sounds pretty full, but bottom end of song is a little laid back for my taste. Thanks for sharing it, the drummer rocks.

OK that's it I'm getting me a pair of those MXL603's.

OOOOH, love to hear good musicians. Bet the drummer likes Ian Paice. Great tight musicianship, always a pleasure to mix. Good work. The bottom end sounds pretty good to me. Not huge but its not that kind of music. I couldn't feel the white cone on my ns10's wobble much from the kick but you sure could hear it. ATM25's tend to do this a bit. Maybe thats why there so good cause you can then turn them up more without making the speakers wobble like shit like the d112 or the beta52 does.

Reminds me of some of the good ol' stuff like Carl Palmer...much in the sound and somewhat in the style.

The overheads alone dont sound too bad... you can get ALOT out of overheads if you place them right. I think it would sound much better if he wasnt using the Mk1 as his converters... they are pretty old school 16 bit converters I think....
