Returned from the dead
well not "It"
but it's definitely something. It's really not my style but it's something until I'm satisfied with a guitar tone.

So, it's synth based. I'm sure the snare and solo doesn't fit with the song, and in general the song is pretty boring.
It's just a verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/chorus song with a synth replacing vocals.
I might go back later and replace the lead synth with some vocals and replace the melody n whatnot.

So, there it is. Gimme the damage ;)

Not a bad tune, kind of 80's electronic. I thought the solo brought a nice change. Needs better drums/percussion though, they get completely lost when all the synths come in.

Joey :)

:D
I thought the first post would be someone tearing me a new asshole, lol.
I agree, I really should work on the drums, only problem is I don't know too terribly much about drums :o
and I kinda buried the snare on purpose :o

I noticed that in the solo it sorta drops out half way through, but I didn't know what was causing it.

Thanks for the kind words joey ;)

Cool, quirky little tune. Kinda monotonous, repetitive melody. Play with it, build a short chours that kind of swerves away from the main line, and repeats maybe twice before the lead, and once after.

The solo piece was good. It was refreshing when it finally came in because of the repetition preceding it.

Have you got some lyrics scribbled down for this? The way the melody works, I kept hearing this:

I got in my car
and put it in gear.
I went to da store
ta get me some beer.

They asked for ID
I said, oh what a drag!
You're a new clerk
must be some kind a fag!

I got in my car
and slammed it in gear.
Hauled ass to my house
with no stinkin' beer! :laughings:

Forgive me...couldn't resist! :D

If you've got some of the synth tracks without drums, one of us could throw some skins at it.

All in all: good, clean first mixing project.

Lol too funny :D
I'll cut out some of the repetitions and raise the drums when I get back tonight.

What about the mix though (other than the drums)?
How was it?

Nevermind. I must not have read all of your post :o i'm on my phone and sometimes it doesn't like to load whole pages.

Have you abandoned your own thread, Winkie?

Got "un-drummed" track? Gonna hack out some lyrics?

I went back to listen to it today...

Good God, It sounds terrible :laughings:

I think I better stay clear of songs like this from now on :D

So I brought the lead synth down cause I didn't like the way it covered everything up, I brought the drums up a little and added some reverb to 'em.

The original post has been updated with a new link,

on headphones for the foreseeable future so bear it in mind

ok so you've lost your virginity...congratulations!

yeah the drums are a bit crappy...maybe if you mixed everything around them it would make them stand out...the kick has to be awesome in any electronic music..

it kinda reminded me of the bloodhound gang...the synths pounded good..a bit repetitive..you would need another layer or two of instruments to build up the tune..like FX, samples, or hand claps etc, just to add some dynamics

but it all sounds like a likeable wee tune..dont be stuck with it for too long...just park it as your first attempt and start on another...these are just sketches just now and its all practise for the future main event..

good job Nic..nothing to be afraid of :)

I wouldn't tear it apart and try again, it will be fine as try #1
I think I should probably read up on drums cause I really have no idea what to do with them
Oh well... it was just practice :D:cool:

what are you using for drums..programmes, midi files etc??

I used the claustrophobic kit from Ezdrummer. For the kick I just boosted from around 50Hz up to around 100-150Hz so it would be more of a sub kick with a little bit of 'boom' and some reverb

as for the snare... I didn't really do anything but add some reverb

damn i wish i wasnt on phones..the miss the kick altogether

claustrophobics a good kit but more suited for todays unban sounds ..id go with a 909 copy for this, the kick should be pushed a bit harder and bring the snare down generally on 909 kits

http://free-drum-kits.com/free-drum-kit-roland-tr-909/

then set it around -14db then mix everything in with it...have it so you always think you have the kick's too loud and it will be right 9 out of 10 times!

When I first had it mixed I thought I had the drums waayy too loud so I turned em down. I go back and use that kit and bring the kick up again.

I like the Lead synth where it's at thought. I didn't like the way it covered up the rhythm.

the right kit and drum level will cut right through the synth..another option is sidechaining the kick, this will make points of compression on the synth every time the kick is hit...more compression makes it noticeable as in French House tracks but even just a little isnt heard by the listener but allows the kick to get through

like i said..with electornic music lay down the drums, then mix in the bass until they have a relationship then mix in everything else..if you dont have those two right it will just sound like your synths are too loud and they'll bury the beat when the song is in full swing

KoPDude :D

This your first (now second) attempt? Not bad man.
Better than mine. ;)

If you're not gonna shelve it and move on...branch it off and create some different chapters to your musical story. It do get a bit repetitious.

If you ARE gonna shelve it, disregard and grab me a beer while yer up.

:D
