My friend's band recently recorded a few new songs at the studio, so I'm posting it here. I'd be hard pressed to describe exactly what they sound like, but they have been compared to bands like Slint and Deftones (which I thought was a little weird). I left out the vocals because the vocalist wasn't happy with his takes. Any feedback on the mix would be awesome as well.

Cool music, creative I think. The mix is balanced but is really lacking in low end, maybe is was mixed on a system with hyped bass?

I'm monitoring on a pair of Yamaha HS80Ms. I love these monitors, but are they known for having a hyped low end? I still have a lot of editing to do with these tracks, but I'll probably upload the second (voxless) track soon.

I'd agree, it's rather middly-sounding. Partly because the guitars and the bass seem to be trying to occupy the same frequency space. The result is a mush that only the snare is able to break through. It's a bit better after the quiet guitar bit but again the guitar seems middly and lacking air. There's definitely potential and some good interesting sounds in there but it's not going to be easy to mix.

Overall its not bad at all, i agree with what the other people are saying and think maybe the snare is a little thin sounding, maybe thats just personal preference and will probably change if you bring up the lows. Hmm I think I hear a little Rage Against the Machines in it, always love me some rage.

Cool song... nice clean tracks. With the right EQ treatment to get the guitars out of the way of the bass and visa-versa, things will be much better. Drums need some heavy compression and EQ..... You have everything you need for a pro sounding slammin track. Nice .... now all that needs to be done is to use EQ and compression to make this sucker flat out rock! Oh yeah baby!!!

Peace!
