I fixed the "Henry the Clown" link on the "music" section of my homepage. Please have a listen and critique.

Looking for advice on my mix and processing.

With all due respect for your creative talents with Flash, you cannot expect the members of this board to jump through four or five hoops to get to the link to your song, and then have the link spin around and display your booking information ... or maybe you do expect that ?

Have you ever thought that there is a really, really good reason that some people have a flash blocker installed :D .

And if we finally do get it to stream, we see the URL it is coming from is soundclick, which has a very bad repuation on this board, and rightly so.

Look at the 'WWW' button on these bbs pages underneath a member's post in a thread. You will see about 80% of all the posters use nowhereradio.com , and it's not because we want access to our songs to be screwed up ...

I come away from the experience I just had trying to stream your song feeling like a lab rat used to test your mastery over the point and click interface in Macromedia Flash development environment. We are not here for that.

You will find the musicians who are most popular on this board, and some of the best musicians here, get us to their songs in two clicks. And they will get 20 reviews and 300 views for thier posts.

The first click goes to their singles page at http://www.nowhereradio.com and the next click either starts a download of the song, or starts it streaming at Lo-Fi or Hi-Fi.

The best link of all ... ESPECIALLY if you own real webspace, as you do, is to make a link DIRECTLY to the MP3 from your post in this thread, then it's one click to get it to start, you could even post a Lo-Fi and a Hi-Fi version on your webserver.

This latter method would impress everyone much more than the sparkling hoops to jump through in your flash module.

I suggest changing your screen-name here and starting over at nowhereradio.com ... and no offense, I'm just being realistic and giving you the benifit of my observations at THIS bbs, the MP3 Clinic.

Ok song

Not my kind of thing. Just a fun song, good for a bar gig. As to Studioviols statements--he has a point. While your website is creative, we really just want to hear the music. Luckily with my system it doesn't take long to get throught the crap. On a dialup, it can take a while.

And now lets hear from....

Dude I feel like I understand where you're goin' here.

The vibe is "short hair long jacket.." type of stuff

If this was on MTV with a video to go with it it, I'd watch it, Make my woman watch it...and make my friends watch it....I liked it__________a lot.

I'm no engineer, but I know what I like. What I noticed was your vocals, although intending to be dry, were dry..., but in a coffee can...that's the best I can explain that.

I would also prefer, in this type of song, for the lead guitar to not use such a serious sort of sound. The lead was definitely blues,
and with a bluesy distortion....your song seems like it needs something to go along with the feel and vibe. Now if Henry the Clown is a SERIOUS blues song then...well....that ain't blues.

Or maybe it's a comic book sort of blues....I can understand that.

Whatever it is ....I like it. I would take it the way it is ....but, to hang on my wall I would curb it just a smidge.

Ouch

studioviols,

Sorry you had difficulty navigating the site. Have I shamed myself so much that I must anonymize myself with a new screen name?

If you saw my first post (titled "advice") you would see that the reason I posted the site link instead of direct links was in case anyone had web development advice to go along with it. There was, at first, a broken link. I posted this thread after fixing it. Sorry about the "hoops." Maybe four clicks vs. two is unreasonable. Won't happen again.

The music link does not "display booking information." That's specifically in the "contact" area of the website. Your mouse must have slipped severely 'cause that's six buttons over on the navigation menu.

Oh...and, by the way, maybe you have some actual input regarding the music?

Thanks much.

Sorry man... can't stream... this computer is soundcard-less... which means I gotta d/l to hear it (have to put it on the network, then open it from another computer...)

I tried

Yeah...well...first of all, I'll be using NoWhereRadio from now on to keep that natives happy.

Secondly, I think I'm going to change my personal site's way of distributing the music. Maybe direct links from my personal FTP (although slow) would be better. It would give the choice of stream vs. download.

Thanks for trying.
