i have to record a band in a few days and i have a few good pres but for the most part i have to use crap behringer mixer pres what is the best way to minimalize on the noise??and/ or what is the best way to maximize on the sound from them?

Record something that sounds good in the first place, and use good mics to capture it.

Minimize the noise? Get your gain structure right.

Maximize the sound? Do what Chessrock said.

Is noise really a problem with those pres or are you just assuming it is because they're Behringer?
If you're recording a good band and you know what you're doing, those Behringer pres aren't gonna ruin it for you.

well heres the deal i have my ovh for drums running thru the behringer mixer and the little red peak light comes on every time a hit the snare so this makes me bring the level down alooot.

Turn the trim pots down until you don't see any more red lights. It is not impossible to get a useable sound out of those Pres, but you definitely don't want to overdrive them.

Some mics are so hot, that on loud sources you will still see clip lights even with the trim pot at the minimum setting. In that case, you need to stick some in-line pads between the mics and the pres. They are pretty cheap.

You can get them at a lot of places, but I know Markertek carries a variety.
