I recently purchased a new computer and i really wanna get this thing up and recording. It is a pentium 3 600mHz with 128 megs of ram, 20.4 gb hdd etc etc etc. What i wanna know is how can i get some recording done with this thing? I want to be able to record at least a stereo pair at a time. Since i will be doing it by myself i probably wont need many more than that. What is the basic equipment i'd need to start recording with my computer? Thanks for all your help :)

Well to start you first need a sound card. If your computer has one that should be fine, otherwise you should look at getting one.
Dman pci AUS$350 (anolog I/O, Midi I/O, built in moduel, 16 bit converter) http://www.midiman.net/product.HTM

Isis AUS$750 (anolog 4*I/8*O, Digital I/O, Midi I/O/thru, built in moduel, 20 bit converter, also heeeeeeeps of softwer) http://www.guillemot.com/northamerica/index.html

Delta 66 AUS$1109 (anolog 4I/4O, Digital I/O 24bit converter)
winman 1*1 midi I/O AUS$120 http://www.midiman.net/product.HTM

Delta 1010 around AUS$2000
• Configured as PCI host card with external rack-mount unit, which houses all converters.
• 8x8 analog I/O is balanced or unbalanced on 1/4" TRS connectors.
• +4/-10 operation, individually switchable on the external rack-mount unit.
• S/PDIF I/O on PCI host card.
• Full duplex operation.
• Word Clock I/O.
• MIDI I/O http://www.midiman.net/product.HTM

you also need to decide what recording you will be doing
A mic of some sort is a good way to start, maby an SM58, and you need some softwer(if you don't get isis) i use Cakewalk thats works well for me. You will also need monitors or a headset their are heaps of good ones around if you don't have any.

This is how i would do it it isn't the only way so don't just go by my info ask around.
Also tell me how it goes.
