You're 18 years old. How much money do you have to spend?

Stereo cassette is very noisy to record to due to track width and tape speed and you usually don't have individual channel input level controls on anything made past about '88.

If you're just wanting to put some ideas on tape singing and playing guitar or piano, get a cheap four track, but don't expect miracles. At least you'll have control over your input and output levels. And you get two more tracks to do something with.

You can make a decent, listenable recording with a four track with practice. That's where a lot us us started. After you've learned how to use it, squeeze every bit of capability out of it and learn the ropes. Then move up.

i get payed about $60 a week
is there a 4-track that i can buy that will get rid of hiss
that is all i am really looking for
and i am not really sure what the phrase "four track"means
i am really new to all of this so please forgive me
i dont mean to be so ignorant
thanx
