Ok so I'm new to this board and pretty much to recording vocals. Here's what I have, mind you these are hand me downs from my father.....AKG C414 EB TASCAM M-312B PODXT and an imac and I would be recording all of this through garageband. I have the mic hooked into line 1 phantom is on and just with those I have to crank the junk out of the volumes just to get the tiniest bit of noise. But when I plug in a shure SM53 mic it seems to be working just fine....am I dealing with a broken AKG? Or am I just a complete idiot that doesn't know anything about mixers and the stuff I have. I am origianlly a guitarist and can record guitars like no ones business. So HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

It's possible the mic is bad. It's also possible the phantom power is not working properly. Borrow another condenser mic and see if it works, or better yet get a volt meter and check the input. If there is phantom power, it's the mic. If there is no phantom power, it's the phantom power...er lack of it. :D

if you have a meter there should be 48v between pins 2+3 and pin 1...
