o.k., i know this has been probably asked before but.....

how do you get songs from a cassete tape on your computer!? i got me a cord to hook up my stereo to my comp., and i have recorded stuff on my computer, but it only comes out on one side of the speaker. how can i stop this? please help me.

Is that cord stereo or mon? In other words, is there one or two rings on the connector? If one, then it's mono and you are probably getting the left side. What kind of cable is it? RCA to 1/8th inch?

What are you using to record? What is the sound card your using?

Give some detail and I'll do what I can to help.

more details.....

thanks for your reply Dr. Sultan......

I'm using one of those cords that has 2 stereo plugs on one end, that join into one, 1/8" plug. Im not really sure exactly what kind of sound card i have - it is from my HP computer (its under a year old.... so i think it must be half-decent). It has a "mic" line, as well as 1 "in" and 1 "out" line.

I normally just plug the cord into the line in and record - but i dont know how to get it in stereo!! Should i have some kind of soundcard that has two line in's or something?

again, thanks alot for the help....

Sounds like an SB Live, should be fine. What is the connection from the stereo? That sounds like the end we need to deal with. How are you connecting the stereo (physically) to the cable? i.e. are you plugging one end of the cable to the reciever then to the sound card? It may be as simple as getting the propper cable. And what is the connection type, as I am not aware of many decks that don't use RCA jacks. Let me know.

oky dokey........ i gots me one of the RCA cables (1/8 "stereo at one end, a single 1/8" line at the other)

If i can remeber correctly, i connected the stero side if the cable to the "play out" on the back of my tape deck (... but i may have also connected it form my reciever...)

The actual program im using is "Music Match Jukebox"

thanks for your time.

Play out? Is that a stereo output? I would think so. If that's what you have and it's at line level, then you should be in business. What's up then? Well, sounds like that cable has a mono end at one side yes? You need a TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) cable at both ends. Check that out and let me know.

If you would like to chat live we can do that. I have a site you can join me at. Interested?

yeah, i would love to chat for a bit - as you can tell i need to educate myself on an area i do not know much about - thanks alot for your time and help.

where's your site? or do you have icq?

I do have icq. But I also have a collaboration web site that we can use to chat. What time zone are you in (I mean that in the nicest possible way of course) Come check us out at Collaboration Central and sign up. We are focusing on helping people and sharing projects with others out there. There is a chat link there that we can use. You can put your icq number into your profile so we could do that as well if needed.
