Hi, I'm pretty new to the world of recording and I was wondering what the best or easiest way to get something recorded with an analog 4-track to a computer or any digital medium.
I have a TASCAM Porta 02 MKII Portastudio if it matters. I hope this question isn't too silly. Thanks.

well...I looked up the specs and it appears there is no output except for the phones....
You could try phones out to line in on a computer...real time play/record
I am guessing that the quality will be poor...
You would need recording software and ripping software to make a CD ....
there are freewares and sharewares out there that will get you at least to that point...
Good luck,
Joe

nah, there's stereo RCA outs on it.
Get a Y cable from Radio Shack. You'll need a dual RCA to Male 1/8" Y cable which will cost a few bucks. Then plug that into your soundcard's line input (assuming it's 1/8" input).

Then find a free recording program.

You will need the adapter cable as already mentioned. You will also need some recording software on your pc, the stock sound recorder may work but you will get better results by downloading a multi track recorder. Audacity is free and pretty good for what you have described wanting to do. Also audacity is easy to learn and use. Another free bit of recording software (you might like it better) is Kristal. Both of these programs are free and will make recording to pc much easier. There are trial or demo versions of lots of other recording programs (you may want to try a few if you are considering buying) which can be downloaded if you want to. Transfering recordings from a tape deck to pc is pretty easy. Be sure to connect to the line in on your pc, the mic input will not be as clear. When recording to pc, watch the level meters, you do not want to red line anything. Once you get the sound (wav file) on pc you can transfer the file to jukebox or media player and burn it to cd. It's not hard to do, after a couple of tries you should have the hang of it.
