Help!!!!

Here's what we have: VS1824 (accompaniment tracks), MX3242X Mixer, Monitor wedge, and 2 condensor mics.

Here's my set up:
I connect the monitor output of the VS1824 to the CD line in of the MX3242X mixer. The Mixer will pump out the accompaniment tracks to the monitor wedge. I directly connect the mics to the VS inputs.

What next? As I start to record the choir, will the vocals be outputed the same time as the accompaniment tracks? i.e Is there a way to just hear the accompaniment track through the wedge instead of both vocals and accompaniment while I record?
 
There should be some setting in the VS that you can adjust so that you don't hear the live mics coming through. Maybe try using a different output for the already recorded tracks; use one where the mics don't come through. :)

Well, Maestro, does the vs1824 have a monitor level control for the mic inputs you will be using? If so, keep those turned down when you play back.

If not, see if the output tracks on the VS1824 have individual aux sends you can use, and use those to feed the monitors, keeping the same aux sends turned down for your recording mics.

I'm assuming either your mixer or your wedge is powered since you didn't list any amp.

You may also want to record the choir in as open a space as possible (but not echoey), and if you are using cardioid mics, put your wedges in the "dead" spot of the mics pattern, or as close as possible to it, to minimize picking up your backing tracks. You can check this with headphones, soloing your choir mics to see how much bleed in relation to direct sound you get as you move the mics around. The "open" space is intended to minimize the close proximity reflective surfaces from bouncing the wedge sound back into the open mics. If you are using Omni mics, this technique won't work. Also a big echoey room will sound like a big echoey room, and an Omni will make it worse.

Great suggestions. I've actually been experimenting with my VS in the last few days. I did figure out about a separate AUX out. I will be able to pump out the accompaniment tracks only to the wedge while recording.

We'll be recording in a elementary school gym. But it also has a pretty decent stage. If I recorded the choir on stage and close the curtains, will that help my recording. For mics I'm using a pair of small condensors, I think they're AUDIO TECHNICA. I also have a large OCTAVA condesor as well , can I use this too? We also have AUDIX dynamic mics and 2 SM57. Are any of these helpfull?
