Please help me!

I have a SM 58, direct box, and a Akai DPS16, and i use the effects that came with the processor. But when i do the final tracks (vocals) they don't seem high enough and my vocals sound like mud. Do i need to get a condenser mic? or what?

And is it possible to get a okay sound for the kind of equipment i have now?

Direct boxes are used for line equipment such as keyboards, guitars etc. Are you sure you don't mean mic preamp? If you are using a direct box for the microphone, you will not have enough amplitude or balls to get a string signal. Does the Akai unit have xlr inputs? If it does, plug the mic right into it. If not all you need is an adapter from radio shack to give you 1/4 inch phone. Then plug this into the Akai. The other option if this is too bright, as some digital units have lousy mic pres, like my VS1680, I use a mic pre external. Better quality, but not an necessity.
You don't even nedd a direct box witht the Akai I don't think. It is used if the recorder or mixer doesn't have line inputs. Not for microphones.
