Alright...for my birthday i got a real cheap soundblaster card....like i read reviews and it has crashed many a system. So i was thinking of getting the M-Audio DiO 2448 and a J-station since that was compatible. Then I heard about the Genisis 3 that was also compatible. I guess what im asking is what are the benifits/ downfalls of these two and should i just forget about those...save up and get a POD. Thanx for any input! (P.S. I no miking is the best way but i realy want to record on a pc...)

Has the soundblaster crashed your system yet? Truthfully, I would suggest to keep it for now and spend your time learning the recording and mastering programs..... Wait till your ready and you are sure this is what you wanna do, then go invest the money by that time there may be new products out........

I made the mistake when I first got in this game of going out and buying everything that was popular and expensive, but I learned a hard lesson..............

Its not the equipment that makes my music sound good "Its the engineer"

From what I've read on this board, most people's problems (me included) with Soundblaster cards only occur once they upgrade to a nicer card (Delta, Aardvark, et al.) and try to use the Soundblaster along side the new device. Use the search engine to read more about that.

There are plenty of people on this site using the soundblaster as their sole recording device and frankly I'm amazed at the results they are getting; every bit as good as some of the higher priced systems, the only thing they suffer from is a lack of flexibility, i.e, they have to work a little harder to get the same results.

As far as the POD, Jstation or other modellers, they are all compatible with any soundcard that has a line level input, and the soundblaster does. What it doesn't have is a decent microphone pre-amp and IMHO that is it's biggest drawback.
