Sup guys just needing a quick help with my setup. I am using an ART tube Pre-Amp paired with a MXL V67 going to my SB Live card and will be using CEP for my PC software..

I am using a XLR 1/4 cable going from the Mic to the pre-Amp and a Radio Shack 1/4 jack adaptor with a mini plug to be plugged into the SB Live card Line Input jack.

My problem is I've double checked all my cable connections (Which I think is ok and correct) but however i'm not getting any input from the mic. :( It's not even making any input noises.... Am I missing anything else here or do I have a faulty hardware equipment? I'm a rookie with all these Home studio thing so maybe another set of brain can help me out.

thanks alot.

2 things I can think of:

1. make sure phantom power is "on" on the preamp.

2. go to Window mixer and make sure the Line in is not muted.

Good luck! :)

Ok :) what seems weird is that I tried plugging in another generic Mic and that work however the MXL67 Mic would not work at all. So i'm guessing its defective.

Are you useing the adapter from your mic cable to the pre{1/4"}?If you are that is why you aren't getting the mic to work..Take the adapter off.. plug the cable into the pre ..now the mic will get the power it needs to have..The mic needs to be cannon to cannon not cannon to 1/4"..Now Im confused..LOL

If you're using anything but an XLR to XLR type cable between the mic and pre amp it won't work. Phantom power is ONLY available on the XLR and not on the 1/4" input.

Hmmm... XLR to XLR??? How would I plug from the Pre-Amp to the Soundcard? Radio Shack only has the 1/4 to the mini plug for the soundcard.... Are there any especialty store online that carries XLR to a mini plug for the soundcard?

Re-read Track Rat's post. He's talking about XLR between the mic and the ART--and he's right. Just get a real M/F XLR mic cable.

Your connection between the ART and the sound card is fine.

Hey "tdukex" I understand what "Track Rat" is talking about as far as XLR cable between the MXL Mic to the Pre-Amp is what I currently am using but still not getting sound going to the soundcard. I'm thinking about somehow trying to find an XLR cable that has a mini adaptor in the end as opposed to the 1/4-mini one I got from Radio Shack. Again thanks for all the help you guys are giving....
