Im not too familiar with SCSI talk so im hoping someone out there is. I've got a SCSI jaz drive that i want to hook up to my PC to move wav files over from my recorder. The PC is your regular run of the mill window's XP loaded machine that does'nt come with any SCSI ports to plug in the jaz drive. I've seen PCI cards that have the SCSI ports on them...is that all that's involved ? Buying a SCSI PCI card and then plug an play ? Or is there more involved (e.g. does my motherboard etc. etc. need to be 'specialized' for a SCSI interface)? Can anyone point out an inexpensive reliable card (I was thinking about an adaptec card).

Thanks,
T

Just a PCI scsi card (+ cable) and you're basically set, hardware-wise. There are some minor things to consider to set it up properly.
Make sure that the scsi card has the same kind of 50 pins connector as the drive (but most inexpensive scsi cards do).
If the Jaz drive is the only drive on the scsi chain, you need to 'terminate' it. That means nothing more really than telling the drive that it's the last device on the scsi chain. You can set that on the drive itself.

It isn't really important which brand scsi card you get. Adaptec is good, very well supported but kind of pricy. Anything with a Symbios Logic chip (very common and cheap, have one in both my PC and my server) will work as well. Same should apply for Advansys and Initio chips. In other words: It isn't a big deal which card you buy.

You'll have more problems with your disks than anything else, errors and crap.

Thanks guys, that's exactly what i wanted to know.
P.S. - Christiaan - I got to visit, then run up and down for miles in the dunes at Egmond Ann Zee last summer - the Netherlands is a great place to spend some time!!!!

A colleague of mine returned from a 3 weeks vacation to Toronto last weekend. Your city is worth a visit as well, according to him. :)

P.S. Tea In The Sahara is seriously one of my favourite Police songs.
