Hi,

I'm currently working with a band. My problem is, were just using a basic mixer and what not and putting it straight into the computer and recording with sony acid and audiacity. What I would like to do is have seperate recorded tracks for each instrument. We've tryed dubbing, it's fine for the guitar, and fine for vocals, but with the drummer, he can't tell what the heck he's listing to little on playing. Is there anyway to play at the same time, but make the guitar go to a different recorded track, and the drums to a different track that way the volume can be independantly adjusted? Thanks for any replies to this, as Im in need of help with this subject as I have only been doing recordings for about 4 or 5 months.

yeah there area anumber of ways to do it, and I guess the general thinking at hte moment is to get a multiple-input box for your computer- something that can handle more than 2 tracks at once.
If oyu need preamps, there's a lot of firewire units out there, like the Prosonus firepod, Mackie Onyx 800f, Digi002 rack etc.
If you konw how to use the direct outs on your mixer, then you can get away with a simple sound card with multiple inputs, like a M-Audio Delta or something in the RME line.
Also, make sure that you are quite comfortable with your software, you can do a lot with good software and only two inputs...

The new Acid 6.0 now does multiple similtaneous tracks in. How many I don't know yet.

you COULD send the drums into the left channel and guitar into the right channel and set each channel to a mono track, one from each input. it will be in mono, but it would solve your problem.
