I'm and extreme newbie and need help understanding how to hookup a new soundcard.

I just bought a Delta Audiophile 2496 and have a little cheapie mixer.
The mixer is a Behringer eurorack mx 602A.

I'm using a Johnson J-station and recording guitar bass.
Also acoustic guitar and vocal.

Can this be done with this mixer?

I must have it hooked up wrong because when I try to record a track I get the whole mix on that track.

HELP!

I'm not sure you can with that mixer. I use aan MX1604A which has an extra stereo bus (Alt 3-4). So I can route that into the soundcard without routing the signals from playback, which are coming through the "regular" stereo bus, back into the recording.

There are a number of things you can do. Simplest thing is, don't run the J-Station through the mixer, use the S/PDIF for it. You are better off anyway that way, as you'll keep the J-Station's signal in the digital domain all the way. Then you can record off the S/PDIF only while listening to playback. I do a similar thing with my POD and Delta 66, except the POD has no S/PDIF outs. So i ues two of my fopur analog inputs for the POD, and leave it like that. The other two channels are fed by my ALt 3-4 outs on the mixer, so I can plug in a mic an record vocals (of course, then I need to listen back through headphones or I'll re-record what's comning out of the speakers.)

There's another possible problem here, too -- you might have the monitor output of the Audiophile tapped, so it's being recorded too. See the documentation to see how to set that up properly.

Thanks,
I really need to get another mixer.

But here is another problem. I go from the S/PDIF out of the J-Station to the S/PDIF in of the souncard via RCA plug and I cannot get a signal. I've looked at all the settings -- is there something I'm Missing?

O.K I played with the souncard settings and have a signal at the S/PDIF input!
Still cannot get Plaback of already recroded tracks and live input to play at the same time. I think I have tried all possible configurations. Break time!! I'll try it later. Any help appreciated.
Has to have someting to do with the settings.
Or just get another Mixer!!!

i dont think its your mixer...your problem is somewhere in the Delta Control Panel....its not as straightforward a mixer as your consumer cards and can be a bit overwhelming.....what settings do you have selected on each screen?....

also it could be the way you have the mixer connected...do you have the Audiophile routed back to the mixer?...

Well I have tried so many different setting in the control panel I'm sort of frustrated.
First the mixer -- the only way that I see with this mixer to get it into the soundcard is to go from the tape out into the in on the card the from the out on the card back into the mixer.

Currently I have the J-station going into the S/PDIF input.

I get sound with the S/PDIF in -- setting and the S/PDIF L/R Rev. setting -- but cannot get playback at the same time. I only get playback from the wave out 1/2 setting but then cannot hear the guitar I have plugged in.

O.K. I don't know what I did --but it works! Still can't get it to work with the S/PDIF input but I see I just have to keep on learning.
