Linux Man...
I finally got my 2408 all installed and stuff, but now when I want to record, I get funny popping noises from my adat digital in. I don't understand it. I am not trying to sync anything. I don't have a sync cable hooked up or anything like that. I have the out of my Adat XT lightpipe going into bank b on the 2408. I have checked and rechecked the sample rates too. I just don't understand. I tried cool edit and samplitude and they both record clean from analog but adat sounds like a helocopter or something, I can still hear my guitar, but the chopper is there. HELP!! $900 on a sound card...it should cook dinner for me too, let alone be able to record cleanly.

Sounds like a clocking issue. Make sure that when you're recording into the computer from the ADATs that the MOTU clock master is set to "lightpipe" sync. When playing back from the computer to the ADATs the clock should be set to internal (that is if you're not using an external word clock generator). In the digital world, whatever you're recording FROM has to be the clock master and the RECORDER has to be the slave (the master always puts it in the slave. It's good to be king).:D

Wow, thanks so much. I hope I can figure this out every time I repatch something. I am new to this clock stuff. I guess I will have to learn it sometime, so it might as well be now.
Time for question #2 about the 2408. How can I monitor inputs? I have tried the enable routing thing and that didn't work. I have only tried to monitor the lightpipe ins, not the analog. Anyone have ideas? I would like to be able to hear what I am playing through the phones.

How you monitor depends on what software you are using. If you just want to listen to make sure all the light pipe channels are there, open the MOTU Cue Console and enable the channels for monitoring.

Thanks, I had just found that before I checked back here. I didn't realize that I didn't have the bus enabled. I thought they were routed by default.
