Can anyone tell me in Sonar if you can enter midi data with your midi keyboard, while in editing mode (ie piano roll or staff view). I can easily enter notes from my keyboard whilst recording them in real time. However as I am not the greatest keyboard player I would like to play a few measures, then enter a few measures at a time and then play back to see how my construction is going.

Basically I love Sonar, but I want to be able to enter note by note at my own pace in a staff or piano roll view (like Sibelius allows you to), and I don't want to use a mouse to do this.

I might even be happy to use the computer keyboard to do this, but I can't figure out if you can do this either.

Sibelius is a breeze to record and edit midi, but I would love to stay in Sonar, so I can simultaneously (well almost) lay down, vocals, giutar etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You should be able to just set duration and place the cursor in the right place. Then hit the note on your keyboard that you want.

You can also use the step recording feature for that.

Step recording, that's the ticket. It's described in the manual and help system...

On second thoughts, I don't like it at all. Seems like a really bad way to work. I can seem to see the notes on the staff or piano roll whilst I enter them in step record mode, nor can I seem to play back my step recorded notes within the step record dialog.

Unfortunately again I think Sibelius is way superior in midi note editing and entering. I am pretty surprised given that I thought historically Cakewalk's strength was midi sequencing.

The other issue is are there computer keyboard shotcuts for entering/recoding midi notes? Seems I can change from draw (D), Erase (E), and Select (S) modes, but then have to use to the mouse to raise or lower notes etc. In Sibelius, you just press up/down arrow and the note is raised/lowered.

Alternatively, has anyone synched Sibelius to Sonar/Cakewalk. I have synched a lot of other software to Sonar as the master, but can't seem to get Sibelius to start via a cue from Sonar. (Midi input lights flash though).

Many thanks.
