i have a Music Quest MIDI card that i bought circa 1992. it's an ISA card with a single MIDI port.

until now, i had used this MIDI card in an older computer running DOS and Windows 3.1. i've just purchaed a POD-Pro and i want to talk to it so i can manage the settings in the POD. the software for the POD is WIN98/NT compatible, so the older computer won't cut it.

the card is MPU-401 compatible.
the card is set to Ports 330-331 and IRQ 7. i've tried IRQ 2/9 also.

i'm running NT 4.0.

i installed the generic NT MPU-401 MIDI driver and configured it to 330-331 and IRQ 7.

but, i can't estabish a communication link with between the computer and the POD or even with my keyboard that has worked previously with this card (on the other older computer).

the PC and POD or Keyboard are configured for channel 1.

any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

let me ask the question again:

does anyone know how to setup a MIDI MPU-401 card in Windows NT 4.0?

Im no expert at this but it sounds like a driver problem.
You may not be able to find an updated driver for this card
because of its age. But I would contact Music Quest if they still are in business. You might be better off buying a new card that has win nt drivers for it. All things being equal Os are not.

I'm not sure how NT handles the sys.ini references as in Win98, but my MusicQuest 2Port/SE driver installation was incomplete and ineffective until I added the line to the Drivers section that referenced the musicquest driver.

[drivers]
pen=wacom.drv
penwindows=penwin.dll
midi1=mq2prtse.drv
MIDI2=vpiano.drv
wavemapper=*.drv

I actually met and had dinner with the guy that wrote the driver for my MQ interface. Great guy. Sorry, I can't hand out his address to troubleshoot your problem. He's retired.

thanks all...

it's looks like the card is bad. i installed the card back in the old computer from whence it came, and it doesn't work there, now. i'll look for another card.
