Hi guys, please excuse me if these questions seem a bit stupid but i'm a novice at this stuff!

Basically I have Cakewalk home Studio XL and i'm looking to buy a midi controller such as the M Audio 02 to control the midi parts of Cakewalk. I have no MIDI input so i'm looking at USB midi controllers - would this work just plugging it into my USB port in my laptop? Would I then be able to control the MIDI parts on cakewalk from the controller?

thanks

Sure.

That's exactly the design rationale of the M Audio keyboards and every other manufacturers products that use USB as a convenient, plug and play way to get midi data into the computer.

Some USB controllers like this one --- http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--MDOOZONE --- have an audio interface built in so you can kill two birds with one stone (so to speak).

Yup. MIDI does not have to transfer a lot of information and USB is a very practical way of getting it into the computer.

It's just another data interface....
