Any suggestions on EQ'ing the acoustic guitar.
I cant get it to so it's not boomy on other speakers.

This is how I have the guitar EQ;ed now.
Hi-pass at 47hz
P-EQ @ 67hz +4.4db 4oct
P-EQ @ 237hz -11.9db 4oct
P-EQ @ 2.18Khz +8.1 db 4oct
H-Shelf @ 6.27Khz

Also what do you think of the delay on the vocals. Is it working or should I get rid of it?

Tim,

It isn't boomy on my speakers. It actually sounds pretty nice. What are your monitors and what is your mic choice and placement?

Maybe that's just how that guitar sounds. Maybe your hearing something in your head, but not getting it with that guitar.

Have you changed strings? Are you compressing it at all? That +4.4 at 67hz looks suspicious.

I hear a bit of boom....

How about like this?

I may have taken out a bit too much, but I did it around 125hz.

I stereo miced it wirh JoeMeeks JM27's 14 inches out pointing at soundhole and 12th fret.Hard panned L and R. Ill have to open up the session and take a look at the compression.

It sounds OK (it's a bit boomy) on my monitors but in my car It is way too boomy.

I think The boost at 67hz was to make up for some of the low end from the H-Pass.

Sounds good. I play around with 125hz.

Is the delay on the vocals working or not.

Have you tried putting one at the 12th fret (14") and then one over your shoulder pointed down at the body. I try to avoid the sound hole if at all possible, but that's just me.

Thanks Phil. Will give it a shot when we redo it.

Tim..Acoustic guitar is one thing I have no experience or ability to record. But this sounds great to my ears. Nice attack of the pick sound and nice body in the general. Sounds cool to me. Wish I could be more helpful, dude.

Nice clean up there Dogman.

Hmm, you might try pointing the mics at the 12-14th fret and away from the soundhole, at the body behind the bridge area. Pointing a mic at the soundhole is going to get lots of boom. Pointing behind the bridgde gives a warm sound when mixed in with the neck mic

Nice vocal style and rhythmic feel to the gtr.

That's a lot of EQ.

Are the mic's panned hard L and R? I can't tell.

If it were me I'd retrack the gtr and get the sound I wanted with mic placement. Maybe just one mic at the neck/body joint. Maybe track two rhythm gtrs then pan them L and R. EQ is a valuable tool but the problem with EQ, to my ear, is that each filter adds some expression-reducing artificiality so I avoid it if there's any way.

Tim

It's certainly boomy in head phones.
Nice song & performance though. Definietly consider Timothy Lawler's suggestion & even do the Dogman on the existing track to blend it with the newly tracked if it survives.
This song has touches of Oasis - & I mean that in a good way.

Hey timboZ,

I listened on my monitor speakers in my studio and the guitar is sounding very sweet, clear and I couldn't hear any of the boominess, I listened to #2, have you made the eq adjustments??....because the guitar is sounding fine to me.
Your vocals have been captured and executed nicely as well. As rayc mentioned it has that oasis flavour to it, which is a good thing.
I know this is an acoustic number but I would like to hear a nice bass line underneath the guitar just to cover the low range.

Great work timboZ.. :)

Unless you plan to add a rhythm section, I think it's just fine. In cars that have a hyped bass it might boom a hair, but I think on balance you're very close.

on the vocals have a long delay reverb, but no echo. it's a bit distracting.

Thanks everyone.
If I do anything I may just drop a db or 2 around 125hz.

I would cut the echo back on that. I like your vocals alot! The song is OK, but it is very repetitive throughout with the melody, and it doesn't cover much ground with content or keep my interest. Aside from that, the guitar sounds out of balance with the vocals as far as te tone and EQ, but I think you can fix that with retracking the guitar using different mic positions.
