Are you a smoking gospel player or singer? Huh? Well? No you say? Then what are you doing here, scram. :D :D

Here's the deal:

my friend Cindy wrote this Jesus song. I wanna record it for her for her wedding gift. She is a classical geek ( bigtime pro) but she wants to start writing songs. She just gave me a lead sheet and nothing else, I am basically writing the music for her, she just gave me a simple melody and lyrics. I am not particularly religious, its a challenge for me as an arranger to come up with a suitable modern jesus music sound.

I need:

Guitar
Percussion ( maybe like a bell tree for the synthy parts, nothing much)
Hand clappers. One or two of my fake ones are off on this, I need real hand claps at the right spots.

Vocals:
I need a soloist, maybe a choir   I choir would sound awesome on this! I dont know if its possible, maybe just a few "Jesus"s at select spots.

Before we worry about vocals, I would like to get some music down. I would consider other instruments too. What you will hear is still in sketch form, the keys will be a bit better and there will be a big orchestra.

I only need guitar in the rocking parts with the claps. All this should be easy/ I am open to ANY arrangement ideas and suggestions you rapscallions may have, it should be FUN.

Whos up for some Jesus music? :D

Gospel song I made a soundclick page for her.

Ya know what I roll like...If I can be of service, let me know.... :D

Cool Ed, just check out the tune and see what you got. I am very open to a group collab, I am outta my realm here although its a fairly straight-forward arrangement.

We can do mp3s at 192 like before. Anyone interested can pm for my email.

OH:

The tempo is 80bpm. There are two empty bars at the beginning.

OK, it looks like we got Gorty and Ed on the geetars which should be plenty :D

Still needed:

Percussion- I think I will go with midi drums, BUT I would like other percussion. I am open to suggestions, maybe bell trees and tambourine for the ambient parts, maybe some toms or something for the rocking parts. Totally up in the air.

If we get that going we will take it from there, unless anyone can play a mean harmonica or play a killa B3 organ. Gospel-style. :)

I have never tried any gospel before, so I guess it could be interesting to say the least :p

When you get to the part of needing some vocals let me know and I will see what I can do. By the way, are there lyrics for this already (I am hoping :) )

britt can sing, but we couldn't do anything about it until this weekend.

USA! USA!

There are lyrics, I will get them to you.

For everybody:

I will post two versions today:

1. Just the band and no Vox

2. The Band PLUS cheesy synth Vox to show you exactly where the vox goes. I will make the rhythm of the vox EXACT, feel free to not follow it :D Its gospel dag nabit, not Mozart!!

We're still thick in the midst of remodeling our new (old) house, but I might be able to carve out an hour or so to lay down some pure-cussion for you...

I noticed you didn't mention "cowbell" as a possiblity...

S'ok.... Prolly just slipped your mind....

You never KNOW!!!!!!!!!!! It might even work :D Sure, just some simple prcussion to fill it out. A tambourine here and there, a bell tree at the beginning, etc.

APL: Sure!

Heres probably the deal:

Cincy kid will lay down his vocals the way he wants. After that, we could get a group to sing "JE-SUS" in the choir. At the end we will need some scat singing, a femal voice would be good to offset Cincys. We want this modern rockin gospel. At least as gospel as white folk can get being produced by a classical dork!

Man, I'd like to contribute some percussion. I'll have to see if I can get some time :(

OK, click the same link above, I put a version with the synvox real loud to show you where it goes.

Cincy, in the CHorus, the JE-SUS is the same both times ( at the beginning of a measure). The synvox is close but not 100% accurate, some of the little words here and there you just squeeze in wherever. Hey, its gospel, its all about the attitude, not which not lines up where :D Do your thang, be as creative as you want!

OK David, I got the lyrics and the structure according to your vox version. One initial question (and I know you will most likely say "Be creative and do it how you want", but I still will ask..):

For the lead vocals, do you have any kind of style in mind? I mean, do you want me to sound more like a (hmm thinking of name of someone) Justin Timberlake or someone who has a real good pure, clear, smoothe type of voice, or do you want something more sratchy like a creed or harder rock type of voice? I think I can do either so just curious if you have a preference.

Maybe I will try a version of both to see what you think sounds better, and maybe they could even be woven together, hehe...

Ok, I think I will lay down the tracks Friday / Saturday unless I can fit them in beforehand. In the meantime I will play with the vocal melody and try to listen to this a few more times...

Should be fun ;)

I dont know who Justin Timberlake is, is he the kid who ripped off Janet Jacksons shirt at the Superbowl??

I want the Cincy Kid to do HIS thang  I dont really have anything in mind, I suppose the Verses could be a lil more Angelic and the Chorus be more rockin.

If anyone needs anything else let me know ( Chord changes, notes, etc). I am really looking forward to this, it helps me as a musician to do something completely different from my day job of playing symphony.

If you want a cheesy falsetto backup singer, I'm all over that :D

britt, mrs apl, and i are way experienced gospel choir singers. I don't know how big a sound we could make with multi overdubs and the same timbre.

I am gonna need a choir. I doubt I can afford the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, so I guess its gonna be the HR knucklehedz virtual choir :D :D

I was thinkin a choir a la Hey Jude, maybe people humming or something. I am real good with editing, I will make us sound pretty good. If there are enough people, I will sing too :D :D :D I have a Horrible voice, really. I will bury it in the mix.

LOL, yea I couldn't think of a better example at the time, but after listening to the song structure again I am thinking the voice will be more clear instead of grungy, but we shall see ;)
