Hey all,

Can you guys walk me through how to record with MIDI in Protools using the 002 rack on a mac.

I would like to record drums via MIDI from my electric kit and then change the samples to better ones.

my electric kit is the Alesis DM5Pro. I have a digidesign 002 rack and Protools 8 on a Macpro.

the Alesis DM5Pro has a MIDI In and a MIDI Out. I have two MIDI cables connecting the DM5Pro to the Digi002 rack. (In to out, out to in)

Now what the hell do I do..?? haha

I have no clue how to setup MIDI in Protools...

Anyhelp would be appreciated..

Thank you.

After a little while of trying things out, I figured out a way to get my drumset to record sounds.. BUT not the samples from the kit. Only the Data using a virtual instrument inside Protools.

I created a MIDI track, and also created an Aux stereo track. I went to the Mix window and under inserts, I added the Mini Grand as my instrument. I then selected the output of my MIDI track to use the Mini Grand instrument.

I click record enable on my MIDI track, press 3 on the number pad to start recording and then start playing on my DM5Pro electric kit and all the hits are recorded perfectly as Piano sounds using the Mini Grand Virtual Instrument.

How do I set it up to add the drum samples from inside my DM5Pro kit, or from other samples on my computer and is it possible to use .wav files as those sounds?

How could I set it up to use "EZ Drummer Drumkit From Hell" or "Metal Foundry" drum samples? or simply, drum samples that sound "metal" or "hard rock" as that is the sound of drums I am looking for.

Thanks!
