HELP! VS 840 question

On a Sound on Sound review I saw some things I want to ask for:
1. Snapshots cant be used for automation. Does it means I cant change EQ or Pan during playback?
2. Optical line out: is this the same as I find on consumer Recording/playing devices such as SONY CD player?
3. I have a ZIP drive on my PC: Does it means I can Edit my music on Cakewalk or Cool edit?

Ill appreciate any help...

1. I think you'll find that you can't use automated mixing on the 840 as it does'nt have that function unlike it's bigger brother, if it does I ain't found it, you can change eq and pan during playback,
2. otical is the same as on home hifi stuff I use mine to master down to minidisk.
3.the zip drive is not compatable with pc disks it uses a diferent lanquage, a pity really, but if yours is the larger 250mb disk it can be used to update the operating system via a download from roland, which upgrades to the gx spec, both the disks must be the same size
