Recording Noob

New member
Hello everyone! I'm new to the recording game, but recently just purchased all the stuff I need to record (vocals, guitar etc.)

I have a Studio Projects B1 mic hooked up to a mixer running into my M-Audio Audiophile sound card on my PC. I also have Cubase SE installed.

Anyway, I was wondering if someone can kindly help me with these things...

1. I use my Audiophile to record, but I also use an Audigy 2 with 5.1 speakers for gaming. I'm wondering how to monitor AND play back files I record in Cubase with my Audigy 2 speakers. I tried setting the default playback card in windows etc. but it still doesn't work.

2. I want to be able to record a track, then listen to the track with my speakers (connected to my Audigy 2) WHILE recording another track on top of it. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks for any help guys!! I appreciate it!

I don't think Cubase will allow you to use the input of one card and the output of a different card, unless they are both supported via the same audio driver.
However, you could set the output bus of Cubase to use the outputs of the Audiophile and patch a cable like this one from those outputs to the Line In of the Audigy.
Then in the Creative mixer applet, enable the Line In for recording and make sure Line In is not muted in the playback controls.
You'll have to play around with the level settings of the signal chain but it should get you what your after.
And, the Audigy will still need to be the default device for Windows.
