ok so i have a PC w/ no dvd player..so what cords are available or what can someone suggest i do to connect a dvd player to my pc and take samples from movies using soundforge? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Only thing I could say is get an external DVD ROM. The only inputs on a computer for that sort of thing are USB or firewire. Not compatible with standard DVD players. Another option is to buy an anolog audio/video capture device. Look on the web, you can order one for about $80.00 US. Hope this helps.

Use a soundcard that has a SPIDF input and a DVD player with a SPIDF output so the signal doesn't have to go through any AD/DA or gain staging.

If you can't even manage to do that, just get a right/left RCA to stereo 1/8" plug, hook up the RCA's to the dvd player outs, and the other end to the line in on your sound card. With a stock sound card anyway. If you have a better one you use for recording, you'll probably have different kind of inputs, so you might want RCA to 1/4", or maybe just regular RCA's for something with RCA ins like the audiophile.

thanks a lot for all the suggestions... ill let you know how it goes!
