Am I missing something???

I have two 1/4" cables coming out of my synth (L and R), going into a "Y" connector with a Stereo 1/4" male end.

My sound card's LINE IN requires Mini plug in, so I have the "Y" going into a stereo 1/4" to stereo Mini adaptor (I actually bought a 2nd of these adaptors by different company and the problem persists. read on).

The stereo mini plug is plugged into my Audigy 2 sound card LINE IN. So far, I should have 2 separate outs from my synth (L and R), going into the "Y" mono Left and mono R.. feeding to the stereo 1/4" male end... and then that going into a stereo adaptor MINI out.

Here's the problem:

In my SONAR software, the VU meters are only registering on the LEFT, and not the right, too. It's not a Sonar software problem. Here's why:

I have plugged my CD player with mini plugs into the sound card, and the stereo meters do register inside of SONAR. So, that all works fine, in stereo, from the CD player, into the Audigy soundcard, into Sonar's Recording mode showing both sides of the stereo.

So, the problem is in the cable somehow?

BUT, when i play my synth, I disconnect first one cable (L), then the other (R), and it does not seem to matter, because the signal is still registering as only LEFT inside of Sonar, regardless of which cable is connected.

Very strange.

What am I not understanding about this cable arrangement?

Anybody?

I'm having the same type of problem, and although I'm not 100% sure, I think it's the jack on my SB Live PCI card. I've tried different adapters, I've isolated components, and so on, and it still happens at least once a day.
I also noticed that when inserting the adapter inot the card, the "click" doesn't feel very "strong". I'm wondering if the tabs inside of the SB card housing are slack?

From what you said, you have a 1/8 stereo going to two 1/4 stereo.
what you need is 1/8 stereo going to 1/4 mono.
The mono outs of your keyboard are shorting out the right channel of the stereo inputs. The radio shack people will always try to sell you the one you got because thats the one you need to hook two 1/4 headphones to 1/8 headphone jack

Totally right on, Farview!

EXCELLENT Diagnosis!

I hooked up my stereo headphones to just one of the Y-adapter ends, and then played with the Pan Balance in the mixer, and sure enough, it is in fact stereo. Totally right on, dude.

THANKS!

Now, I'm off tomorrow to Guitar Center to buy the correct adapter with MONO ends.

THANKS THANKS THANKS!

Todd

Here is the Y cable you would need, just as Farview stated .... 1/8" stereo male to dual 1/4" mono female.

Duhhhh Joe... I gotta learn to read the posts better. : (
