I just got my Ridata 512mb card about a week or so ago, and I recorded a couple of songs fine, but now when I turn on my mr8 it gives me an error message: "Warning, Card Error! Error 02". Why the heck is this happening and how can I fix it? I got the exact card that I found on the recommended cards page on the Fostex website (same as picture and everything), but I don't know what's going on? thanks

Max

Sorry, forgot to mention that. The stock card still works fine.

If you have a PC reader for the card, see if the PC can see and read the 512 card. Try to format there and then use in MR8.

I just put the card into my CompactFlash reader for my pc. It recognizes the card fine, and I formatted it without any trouble. However, when I put the card into the MR8, it still gives me the same error message.

error 02

common error, upgrade the os on your cf card, use newest version, put card in mr 8 turn unit on , hold down the stop button you will be prompted from there

do not format the card on your pc, this will loose the opoerating system

mine was so screwed up fosted had to reformat the card, this usually happens from taking the card out of a reader when data is transfering, or turning on mr8 with no card...

How do I upgrade the os on my card? Is this any different than upgrading the software on the mr8? because I did this a few months ago with my stock card.

Now that I think about it, I had to turn off the mr8 when it was doing something because it was taking a really long time, and that's probably what did it. What do I need to do? And how do I upgrade the os on my card? Also, what did my attempt to format the card on my pc affect?

i see

ok you already udated the os, can you get the 512 card to reformat on the mr8?

mine would not, mine had to be sent in, but generally if you upgraded, and you reformat the card while in the mr8 it fixes it....

tech guy couldnt tell me why mine wouldnt work, but they did fix it for free...imagine that hahahahh

i learned we have to be very carefull about removing the card during any data transmission , or shutting off during an operation

ok...this is really weird now. Yesterday morning I woke up, and I turned on the mr8 just for the heck of it, and it started up fine (much rejoicing). Then just a few minutes ago, after I read your post, I started it up, and it gave me "Warning, Card Error! Error 03" (as opposed to error 02, which is the error I got in the first place). Then I turned it off, and turned it back on. "Warning, Card Error! Error 02". I was confused, and I turned it off and on again just to see what it would do. That time it started up fine. I'm thinking that I just need to start it up a few times to get it to work whenever it does that, but I really don't want to have to do that whenever I need it.

EDIT: Ok, I just figured it out. It does the error 03 -> error 02 -> startup thing whenever I format the card on the mr8. I just re-formatted it, and it did the exact same thing. Well, atleast I know when it's going to do it as opposed to having it do it at random, important times.

hey dave (and others),
i found this post, so i thought i'd continue with my questions here, as it seems appropriate. anyway, i'm now getting the same error that shinemdm was getting: error 3 and then error 2. UGH.

so, here's my problem. i can't "upgrade the os on my cf card" because i don't have a cf reader nor can my MR-8 connect to my computer through USB (the connection is there, but the error screen prohibits me from accessing the USB screen on the MR-8). does this make sense?!

i know i'm probably being an idiot and not explaining it properly. anyway, can you help out a hopeless newbie with this problem?! ;)

windoze is win98SE or newer? What CF card? Does stock 128mb CF card still work?

CF card readers are CHEAP!!! Believe me, I am as "thrifty" as they come, and i sprang for one... $20...

windows XP. ridata 512mb card. stock card works fine.

so you're suggesting a reader will solve my problems, eh?

I have successfully upgraded my CF card using a card reader before. Now will I guarantee it will solve your problem? No.

I will concede to someone more experienced in this. CF card reader has always worked for me, but I've never experienced the problem you are describing.

Sorry to not be of more assistance.

card reader

i got one because i used to have 98 se, the usb was incompatable with that operating system, but you have windos xp, you shoud be able to use the usb port(unless you dont have one) i still use the reader ,its conveinient.

many of the card errors are SUPPOSED to be fixed with the upgrade, should work....

hey guys,
thanks for the info.

however, dave, i do have a USB port. BUT, here's exactly what my problem is (which is why i think i need a reader):

to get files from my MR-8 to my computer (when it's working), i turn on the MR-8, connect with a USB wire, and on the MR-8 menu, i select the "USB" section. then, when i go to "My Computer" on my machine, the icon for the MR-8 shows up and i can update and transfer files, etc.

BUT, now that the error is on my MR-8, i cannot do this, as i can't access the menu on the MR-8 and hence the "USB" section. does this make sense?

i just want to exhaust the possibilities before buying a piece of equipment. thanks, and i really think this will be my last question!!!!!!!!! :)

I think what Dave was saying, was to use the card reader to update/upgrade your CF card, then boot up the MR8 with that card which would then contain the update/upgrade... (bootup the MR8 following the directions for firmware upgrade...)

Of course I am also assuming that you have exhausted every other possibility.

Dave will probably be back to confirm this though...

thats it

sorry somethimes i dont communicate my thoughts very well, or type well hahahahah

yes use the card reader,

i see what you mean, you cant get to the usb menu..... i didnt think of that, ...

You said the original 128 card works fine still?
Why not perform the upgrade using it and then see if the 512 card is still giving you fits...

hey dave and bentrabbit,
thanks for the info. bentrabbit, i tried what you suggested already. the upgrade works fine, but the 512 card still doesn't work. :( bleh.
well, i'll probably get a reader (unless it miraculously fixes itself...one can dream).
