Cut to the chase.. firstly i will tell you whats wrong.
This is all recording in vegas 4 and the chain is allways the same the only thing i changed was which plug i connected the jack.

When recording, using vegas 4 with the 'Record Mixing' input in the back of my soundcard ( i actually thought it was a line in) there is allways an 'echo' when recording and when i try multitracking (drums first then guitar) It plays the drums and i record in another track with recording guitar in another (like usual) but when i solo the track with the guitar in there somehow the drums had gotten in and they were muffled and quite but you could still hear them clearly.

However whan i plug the same jack in to the actual line in at the back of my soundcard it takes about 3/4 of a second to get their
But when i use the line in both tracks were completely seperate i.e no drums leaking in to the guitar track. there was also no echo what so ever.

Basiacally what im asking is why the **** is this delay there whilst im using the line in?? I dont get it nothing in the chain was changed all i did was change the input into the soundcard.
i would prefer to use the line in socket! Is it worth getting a REALLY cheap usb interface (stereo) and how will that work and make it better.
so confused :(
Please someone help me :) reccommend something, tell me whats wrong.
Thanks alot :o

CORRECTION instead of the 'mixing record' or whatever i said my friend told me that it was acutally a 'line out' but it still had it coming in. wierd. Can someone tell me how i can get rid of the delay, basically here is a very simple version of the chain GUITAR AMP>SM57>BEHRINGER MIXER>COMPUTER THROUGH LINE IN>HEADPHONES THROUGH SPEAKER SOCKET IN COMP. hmm
thanks
