OK,I started up my computer,it goes to the windows 2000 start up page and then freezes. Can do anything. Nothing helps. Reboot and the same. I really need to get 2 songs off it. I was starting it up to dump them onto DVD. The hard drive has been sounding noisey as of late. Hard drive problem? Help please

Press F8 while the PC is still booting and choose to boot from your "Last Known Good Configuration". That or "VGA Mode" should get you operable.

When did this error happen? Just after installing something? Do the above the then remove whatever was added and see if you can reboot normally.

Ciao,

if I knew what the heck that was :) How do I???
During boot press delete, or F3 or F2 or esc or something like that......it differs from machine to machine.

installing something?

why yes! you are correct! I was trying out a wireless network card. It would recognise my router but not the internet. The cpu is windows 2000 and I then noticed the card was for XP. I then removed the card. When I tried to re start the issue happened. Now......I thought I would walk around the computer and when I did I noticed the monitor cable at the union(I have 2 monitor cable chained together to reach top of console) was right on top of power strip. I moved it away and rebooted. All was fine then.I hit f8 when the computer was booting up. No message came up, it just started up as normal  Strange! I don't know. I tend to think the f8 cured it rather than moving the cable off the power strip but I'm not sure

well, booted up good for 2 times now back to same old error. I have tried f8 and no help, tried las known good config, no work either. I'll VGA now.
