im new at this midi thing and i have a question. I just got my roland juno-d keyboard and i'm trying to get the patches/sounds thats already stored on the keyboard to come out onto the pc. I'm using fruity loops as my sequencer. So if anybody can help me out a.s.a.p, i'd appreciate it thanx.

You'll have to be a little clearer about what you are trying to do.

What do you mean by ..."get the patches/sounds thats already stored on the keyboard to come out onto the pc"?

Are you trying to get the actual audio files used to create each patch? Probably can't be done since they are stored in the Juno's ROM.

Are you trying to record the audio output of the Juno to your PC? Connect the line outs to your sound card.

Are you trying to edit the patches using some sort of PC editor?

I think what hes meaning is he wants to use the keyboards built in voices/styles in fruity loops to record/playback. To be honest with you, i dont think that will be possible. Basically you will be able to record it using the voices, but when it plays back it will just play the voice that the software has assigned to it.

Remember that MIDI is not recorded in a musical way, but recorded in digits and binary codes, so this technically means that your computer wont assign the same voice your keyboard is but will assign whatever the software is telling it too.

Hope that makes sense!

Good luck!

I don't use FL, but I thought it was a MIDI sequencer, no? If he has a MIDI interface he should be able to trigger the Juno from the computer, if that is what he's asking.

Again, it's not clear what you're trying to do. Basically, there are two things at play here: Audio and MIDI. If you're trying to record audio from the Juno into your computer, then Phyl has it correct, although that method, depending on your soundcard, will probably not give you the results you're hoping for. If you're trying to get FL to playback a sequence using the sounds in the Juno, then you'll need a MIDI interface of some type. The simple description of how to accomplish this is- MIDI OUT from computer to MIDI IN on Juno and MIDI OUT on Juno to MIDI IN on computer. That explanation assumes you have already installed the MIDI interface and the drivers and have configured FL to recognize it.

You need to explain what you want in more detail and tell us what your setup is.

It is both Audio/MIDI sequencer. SP385 you need to connect both your PC and Juno-D via MIDI and Audio cables (i.e MIDI out from PC to MIDI In on Juno for sequencing, and vica versa to use the Juno as a controller, and the audio outputs from the Juno into the Audio inputs on your soundcard). Make sure all the respective MIDI and Audio I/O's are enabled via the setup menu. And then arm your audio tracks to record the Juno (as the MIDI tracks send MIDI to the Juno). You'll have to make several passes though (recording each track one at a time, or as many as you have stereo/dual mono inputs on your soundcard).
