Hey guys, I'm still a newby to this sight, and new to music production all together... Anyways, My problem is that....While playing back a track i keep getting a pop up message saying, .........try increasing the HW buffer..
But I do , I even put it on its highest setting, And i still get the error...And my audio always stops.....
I'm using a laptop my specs are Asus M51Sn Intel Core2Duo T9300 2.5Ghz
3GB RAM
250GB Hard drive
Vista ULTIMATE SP2
And i've done all the tweaks i could do, to speed it up, By, Turning of all unrequired services,Registry tweaks. No programs in background. And Defrag over and over
And still i get this problem. Oh i nearly forgot, I'm running Pro Tools LE8 with MBOX2 and my laptop.... Anyways thats about it.... So guys, if anybody could help me in any kinda way or even point me in the right direction it'll be much appreciated ... THANKZ

Other than PT8 did you install any extra 3rd party plug-ins? Just curious, because I had that problem on my PC and it all ceased when I uninstalled my waves plugins..........

are you using the laptops internal harddrive?

perhaps there is a problem getting audio fast enough. this is common enough with 5400rpm internal drives..

open up the system monitor or performance monitor (can't remember exactly what it's called but it's in protools somewhere)

then you can see what's happening before it crashes, like if cpu or hdd usage shoots up.

And if I may add:

When I say that the plugins may be the problem, it's not because the plugins are bad, but your system is not able to handle that workload. Sounds like you are recording on your system drive? Remember, an external hardrive is highly recommended.......... Investing in one would probably solve all your problems......:)

Plugins galore!!!

yes, I've got loads of plugins installed, too many to list, And i will be getting an external harddrive..... Also, I just want to say, i sometimes don't even have any Pluginss instantiated on any inserts and i will still get the operating system held of interupts for too long please increase the hardware Buffer,
Anyways guys, i google a few of these errors so i followed some instructions, like turning of network cards, and using one cpu core instead of two, I must say, instead of getting the error, every two-five seconds, its giving me say 10-15 seconds, but i'm still frequently getting this error, I'm pretty msure my laptop can handle one track with no inserts, My friend, has the same setup , and he is not gettting this error at all, I wonder whats the difference....

it might be worth removing all your plugins from their folder <just temporarily store them elsewhere so they don't load>

i've seen a lot of strange problems that could be traced back to a problematic plugin, for whatever reason.

a simple answer again!

unless you plan on using a firewired external that is fat than expect to only use it to store stuff in. you cannot use a usb connected ex hd to run and record, edit, etc in realtime. it will not work without even the plugins! i use a usb ex hd solely to put my recording sessions onto after they are all done to keep safe and use the computers main hd solely for OS and PT andits files during work. and to add to this post and my reply to your newer one once i saw here your laptops crudentials, i only run a lil over 1 gig ram on my main sys and its flawless, once again pointing to my statement that no matter how beefed up and capable the laptop may be, it cannot run PT right. sorry again to be a drag but i dont see it working till you get away from the laptop, despite what your buddy is doing somehow!

i had the same problem with a desktop, it happened every 20 seconds or so.
try this
update your pro tools version to 8.0.1
disable any networking, and virus protection

mine now works flawlessly, its worth a shot.

THANKZ GUYZ FOR THE REPLYS, but i did, what ddrummer8 has said and it is now working great, And suprised to see my usb external harddrive not having any hassles... CHEERS

funny that you mentioned usb

i noticed to that i have an external usb HD and im recording directly to it with no problems or errors. its wierd but mayb pro tools 8 is alot better than expected huh lol

Are you using the orignal firewire cable that came with the mbox?
I tried to use a 10 ft cable and all it did was crash. Back to the orignal cable it is and all is good again.
