Help please…MP3 files sound horrible…

I created a 1-minute radio commercial with n-track. It sounds great in n-track. I can use n-track to convert it to a wav file and then play it in n-track and it sounds great. I burn the wav to an audio CD and play it on my stereo and it sounds great. BUT when I use a program (CDex) to convert the wav file (about 10 Mb) to an MP3 file (about 10K) and play in on my Windows Media Player it sounds HORRIBLE. All distorted and LOTS of hiss.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you Track Rat,

The wav file I am starting with is 16 bit and 10.1mb.
The resulting MP3 file is 947kb.

Could it be that my Windows Media Player is just really bad and the file might sound OK on another MP3 Player?

Track Rat, if you want to actually try the MP3 file on your media player you can e-mail me at dcooney@sunlink.net and I will e-mail you the MP3 file to try.

If you can hold on I'll do just that tonight when I get home from work. No way to listen untill then.

Thanks Track Rat,

Please do e-mail me when you get home later on.

I have been piddling around and I have a feeling that it is my Windows Media Player. I reinstalled it and everything still sounds like crap. EVERYTHING, even when I play an audio CD via Windows Media Player it's filled with hiss and static.

I downloaded a program called Audio Edit and wavs and MP3 files sound A-OK when played through it.

Wav2MP3

Otherwise, download the WAV2MP3 encoder (I think it's freeware/shareware) but it could help.
I don't know the website but just try google :)

Thanks punx,

I did a Google search and I found the site which says it is freeware, but the link to the download page leads only to an error page.

I did find a freeware program to try but I have the same results. So apparently it is not n-track, nor my converting program(s), so it must be the Windows Medic Player (Winamp).

Thanks everyone for your help.

Track Rat, no need to e-mail.

Thanks again.

Wait a sec.... Windows Media Player and Winamp are two totally different applications.

Sorry about that. You are right. The thing that has been giving me the horrid playback of the MP3s was WinAmp.

Sorry about my confusion.

I just found my Windows Media Player and the MP3s play fine on it.

So it must be my WinAmp.

Thanks again.
