I have a powerMac G5 and I am finally thinking about getting an interface so I can record 8 tracks of drums at once and do real recordings(instead of garageband)

does anyone know any good interfaces that would let me record 8 tracks of drums at once?
I am new to computer recording, so I need some help adapting.
thanks in advance

I don't own one yet, but I'm looking at purchasing something like the Presonus Firepod - it allows 8 simultaneous inputs (1/4" or XLR) that are sent to your computer via firewire. Other companies (MOTU, etc.) make similar products.

From there, just decide on what software you like to do the mixing inside your computer - Cubase LE comes free with the Firepod.

ooo, that looks perfect. I will definately check into that. I like the firewire part of it
that unit looks almost exactly like the aardvark q10, but I am hesitant to buy the q10 because I cannot find aarvark online anymore, meaning no customer support. that is only $50 more expensive and it has gains on the front of it, that may work perfectly
thank you!

I own the firepod, i couldent be more happy... i havent use it a whole lot yet, but i did have 7 mics for my drum set plugged in and one mic for a guitar cab and did a little (live) recording one day...

it came prepacked with cuebase and it works perfectly together... no hic-ups yet. recorded all 8 tracks perfectly, no noise, everything was just solid feeling.. left me very satisfied.

not to mention it comes with 8 higher end pre-amps (one for each channel) and a 150ohm headphone amp built in

thanks for your mini-review, I'm leaning towards this one now.

I also own a firepod. I upgraded from a Delta-44/DMP-3 setup (all from M-Audio). While I liked the m-audio stuff, the firepod is head and shoulders better sounding (to my ears). It sounds good, it's compact - its got your mixer, your pre's and your interface all in one unit, comes with Cubase, and it's firewire. Not to mention its idiot-proof. When I was looking around for a new interface a few months ago, nothing else came close to it, in my opinion.

Go here: http://www.feelslikefridaymusic.com/music.htm and listen to "Something Better" or "The Way it Has To Be" to hear it in action. Compare to all the other songs which were recorded with the delta 44.

By the way, I noticed you want to record drums - the drums in my songs are loops, so I can't take credit for them with the firepod - but I'd still recommend it. You can hear other examples at presonus's website. http://www.presonus.com/firepod.html

sounds good. I think I'm going to head up to guitar center, probably tomorrow after the snowstorm, and check this out.
