Help~PC ACTING UP WITH AUDIO..

So yeah for some strange reason, audio that is coming out of my comp, or even when i go to record, the audio seems to skip or "stutter." I have no ideae what the problem is..I dont think it's my speakers cause the same problem happnes when i got my headphones on.

Example: If i were to record like "Hello" Only "H-Lo" will come out also my aim and msn messenger sounds seem to have some sort of "reverb or delay" to it Lol....

ne way ne suggestions on what this might be??


Here is my comp stats::

My computer's facotry info has 3000 + AMD ATHALON PROCESSOR (2.16 GHZ), 512 MB RAM, 160 GB HD

AS OF NOW..

114 gb hd and 448 mb left of ram....

my soundcard : Realtek ac97
 
did this always happen or did it just start doing it? If it just started what was the last thing you did before it stared to act up? like did you install any new software, did you mess with any settings, or installed any plugins, or are you running too many toys in the back ground like real time spyware protection, real time antivirus, visual enhancements, quicktime task, AIM, yahoo IM, MSN IM, stuff like that. I know the onboard sound card is not really the best way to record but it still should not stutter or give you a reverb effect. Also the delay effect my be latency. You should upgrade your sound card. But like I said if it just started doing it you should find out first what is causing it.

Yeah i installed alot of plug ins for fruity loops..this is when it started happeing? U got aim or something, to help me further..Please PM Me ur screenames...
 
Maybe when you went searching for plugs, you picked up spyware, you know "Click to Acknowledge License Agreement*."

Try Adaware, and/or Spybot, which are free anti-spyware programs. Also, run an anti-virus program, try AVG (also free) if you don't have anything.

try uninstalling those plug ins you installed.

Yeah i just got done running adaware..

Are you using a seperate HDD to record your tracks on? If not, you could be getting into your virtual drive cache. Low memory will cause this to happen, especially if your streaming your tracks from your C:\ drive.

Also, do a scandisk and defrag on your drive as well.
 
yeah i go straight into c drive. how can i deleat the cache?
 
That's some latency issue. that only happens if ur latency is too low or high. it has to be in between the nominal range. also check ur default sample rate and buffer size. make sure its normal.
 
how can i check this?

This happens with all audio including aim, winamp adobe audtion 2 sonar. Just basically ne audio that comes out my comp..
 
Why are u even using on-board sound? the problem can be initiated from any component of ur system. its unevitable. minimum is atleast a standard pci card.
 
Sounds to me like you've got driver issues, however with an on-board soundcard, this is t obe expected.
Try to track down the latest drivers for your soundcard.
Also, make sure you're not running any "special" effects on the soundcard (like EAX etc). You'll have to find the specific software for your soundcard to check that, can't help you there sorry.

Also, you're probably overloading your computer by trying to use and onboard card for "pro" audio tools... an onboard card usually lacks it's onwn sound processor, and borrows time from the CPU. If you don't have the right drivers, then the CPU overrides the request from the audio hardware, and no longer processes the audio threads in realtime.
This is why you need a PCI audio card. Pretty much every audio card built after the SB Live! series has some form of processor (although I'm not endorsing the Live!), so that should at least get your audio threads running in real(ish) time...
 
Yeah installing the drivers worked a lil...But i think i do need a new soundcard..For somereason i think it has trouble or idk how to say playing multiple things at the same time
