I just loaded HS 2002 on new computer (using microsoft xp media edition; realtek AC '97 sound). When opening Cakewalk it always prompts me to choose MIDI output. I attemt to select Midi Mapper (only available option) and it continues to state I have no output selected. Didn't have this problem on other computer. Any suggestions? Thanks. By the way is that Realtek AC '97 a pretty cruddy card/setup.

I'm guessing you don't have any real MIDI ports, and Sonar is not happy with the MIDI mapper (as it's intended for Windows-use only). You can select "Don't show this page" (something like that) at the bottom of Options -> MIDI Devices.

:)

And what is WinXP Media Edition?

Thanks for the reply. The media edition is a poorly configured bolt-on to xp that supposedly enables you easier access to pics, music, tv recording, etc--none of which I'll probably use! If you don't mind, would you give me a quick newbie geared explanation of what the lack of a "real" midi ports will mean to me? I'll probably be doing a small amt of midi stuff thru a keyboard to add to mostly audio tracks. Thanks alot for your time.

Moskus,
Media edition is nothing but XP Pro, nowadays most of the computer companies like HP, COmpaq and Gateway are boosting their sales by using this edition where a good looking windows media player plays music and shows TV (bilt in TV tuner) you can rewind and see the TV programs, but they are all struggling to perform two task at a time (average video cards) Media edition is only available with company PCs.
Not worth it.

You should select "always use mme driver something". Then the windows midi thingy (i'm into your slang ;)) will play midi, you cannot use (WDM?) kernel faster drivers for they do not recognize the windows midi mapper(?). Anyway, it's in the help section... search for "wavetable" good luck
