um...newbie here...kinda feel like an intruder. Please don't kill me :o

just wondering if somebody can help me out here,

I have a recording on a minidisc (I won't bore you with the details but it is a live recording of something, and is the only copy in existence) that I want to put onto CD. How do I do it?

Currently I have...a laptop (XP), minidisc player with netMD connection to USB (SonicStage software), and an external CD-R drive. So far as I can tell I need a way of turning the raw MD recording into .mp3/.wav/.whatever files, which I can then write to CD.

The question is how? If you could tell me you would make a number of people very happy. :)

What you want to do is record to the laptop and then burn a CD, from the sound of it. You need some sort of audio interface that will accept RCA cables from the analog outputs of the MD deck, and some software to record it on, that will convert it into .wav files at 44.1kHz and 16 bits, and off you go.

Do you know anyone with a computer that has a soundblaster or equivalent? You can probably interface the MD deck with the help of adapters from Radio Shack (I seem to remember that soundblasters have mini-stereo jacks for input -- whatever it is, RS has the adapter). Maybe someone else here is familiar with software for transferring to CD.

I've never used Sound Forge but after a quick scan here
http://www.vaio.net/sonyvaio574.html you should have what you need
as soon as you plug the minidisc usb into the laptop the software should launch and "see" the disc. If not launch sound forge and use the #5 source icon and record into a folder . I'm not sure if sound forge will write to a cd... if not go here
http://www.goldenhawk.com/ and you can download a free demo copy. to burn to a cd make sure it is in wav file format..

And ipdeluxe I woke the neighbors giggling last night..... :D
