Help needed in selecting mic pres-style of V76 or 1073 4 acoustic guitar

I am looking for advise on the best mic pre's for recording acoustic guitar.
They will be used mostly for "acoustic guitar" and an occasional vox.

Budget is tight. I have the Control 24 so whatever pair I get would have to be a
significant improvement over the Focusrites. I don't know if that's possible with a 1k price
budget. Maybe I should wait till my budget increases. or just but one good pre for now.

I have read up on the ART Tube MP Personal Tube Mic Preamp, GRACE DESIGN 101
MIC PREAMP, Joe Meek and such. Am I wasting time with these guys?

Anyone know of a great pair of pres in the $500-1000 range that would compete with the
big boys? I've had API's, Neve 1073's, Telefunken V76's, Avalon and Manleys in the past
but all is gone now due to $$$. It's a drag but life goes on.

V76's and 1073's were my all time favorites. Would love to have something that comes
close to either of these. I know! I know! I'm dreaming but maybe there's a puppy out there for me.

Sonusman has a snazzy dual tube pre for sale that's right in your price range. TL Audio, I think?

Wish I could help more, but I don't have much experience with different pres.

If you're looking for something that would compete with the ones you mention, Great River is supposed to be about the best deal out there . . . I think it would be closer to the $1,500 range if I'm not mistaken. Other than that, you may as well just shell out $200 for the DMP3, because nothing in the price range you mention would be worth it . . . spend $200 or spend $2,000.

i agree with the DMP3 over any $1000/2channel preamp......youll get 80% of the performance for 20% of the price.....

but if you have to spend that much get the Grace 101's....

dmp3. Is this thing for real? Great price.

What's it compare to and do you think it will work well on acoutic guitar?
