I used real player 1, and now all my audio files from the MR8 have been converted to a form that is rnow ead only by the real player 1.
The MR8 will not read anyihing I now put on the card. Can anyone tell me how to convert them back to a form that can be read by the MR8.
And by the way, I have no idea how real player managed to change all my wave files to it's own format. Any help in this area would also be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Ok there is a couple things to try.

First get rid or real player!!(YUK!!)

Go to control panel/folder options/file types/
find the WAV file and set to open with windows media player IF it already isnt.

Or try right click on the real player file and chose to open with window media player.

Or rename the file to morindae.WAV or whatever the song name you want followed by .wav

Hope this helps.

I downloaded real player once, and it did the same thing. I can't stand those type of programs. I also hate Musicmatch Jukebox, it defaults whenever I go to NWR. I wish I knew how to change that too! I did UNINSTALL real player, and the files eventually changed back on their own......somehow? I prefer WMP to all of em.

you can try this too:

press and hold the <shift> key, right-click a .wav file, select "open with...", then when the list pops up, make sure the "always use this program.." is checked, scroll down untill you see WMP and select that...

it should change your preference..(what mixit-g said as well)..

theoretically should i be able to drag wav files to my card(im using a card reader) and then the mr-8 be able to read it?
cause this isnt happening and i think it might be the real player problem...

Buried somewhere in the preferences of RealPlayer One is a screen where you can choose or un-choose which files are associated with it. There may or may not also be a place to choose whether or not RealPlayer One will automatically re-associate them. I don't have a machine handy with that program on it, or I would be able to give you specifics as to where to go.

RealPlayer is an annoying and invasive program. The amount of tweaking you have to do to get it anywhere near reasonable is ridiculous. Unless you absolutely need it, I would get rid of it.

you guys all need to find your File Types menu in Windows Explorer. You can make any program open anything by default with that.

In Windows 2k, it's Tools>Folder Options. Then click the File Types tab. From there your on your own. But you can change the file association back to whatever program you like.

Agreed -- RealPlayer is just this side of being a virus. It wants to TAKE OVER your computer, and it will if you give it half a chance. I kill it quickly whenever it tries to take up residence on my hard drive.

Thanks for your replies guys, I solved the problem by removing real player, as some of you advised. I still had the problem of getting rid of the realplayer logo on my wave files so that the MR8 would recognise them. None of the solutions offered worked in my windows '98 operating system. This was actually solved when I decided to try to change everything back to winamp by opening an mp3 with aol, which uses winamp. The aol software restored some files that had somehow been removed by realplayer, and then played the mp3. All the wave files then immediately converted back to winamp and I am at peace with my computer again. I hope this thread will be of help to anyone else that encounters the evil realplayer.
Thanks again.
