I own a Hughes & Kettner Switchblade head and it just gave out. I had the amp on standby and as i was plugging the footswitch in all the lights turned off. Now when I try to turn the amp on none of the lights turn on and no sound comes out but the tubes still glow. Does anyone know whats wrong with it and how it can be fixed?

I'm hoping its just a the fuses but can't be to sure.

i checked one of them and it didn't work. I couldn't find the other fuse i needed

i checked them and they look fine to me but i wanted to change just to make sure.

I wish I could be of more help to you. Fortunately there are several people on this board who know much more than me. I'm sure one of them will see this thread and respond. Good luck.

you most likely blew the fuse for the B+/ht line since the heater voltages are still there... are you sure that jack was for the footswitch??? can't think of any way that would blow the B+ fuse... maybe the external speaker jack??

well the footswitch is MIDI

Have you tried unplugging the foot switch and restarting the amp?

well the footswitch is MIDI

or atleast it's on a 5pin din jack... cool i figured like most amps if they have channel switching it's usually on a 1/4 "... have you found the B+/ht fuse yet???

The owners manual indicates that there are a couple of internal fuses. These would likely be under the chassis. I assume the fuse you did change was the one where the main power cord plugs in(?)
Since the tubes glow, I'm going to assume that the main power transformer is working. The main transformer supplies voltage to the tube filaments, the B+ high voltage for the tubes, and low voltage power supply. Since all the panel lights don't come on and those may all be low voltage LED's, it might be something wrong with a low voltage DC power supply that provides power for the solid state electronics of the amp, such as MIDI, effects, and switching controls. This would likely be fused with an internal fuse under the chassis. I wouldn't recommend you try to troubleshoot this unless you have some knowledge of electronics and this unfortunately probably means a trip to the amp doctor. Any chance the amp may still be under warranty?

**There can be stored voltages under the chassis that can injure or kill you!!**

Although I seriously doubt it can help, but there is a factory reset procedure on page 21 of the owners manual (downloaded from their site). It might unlock something that got stuck.

Thanks for the help, and ya i changed the fuses next to the main power chord. It should still be under warranty but the people at Hughes and Kettner aren't emailing be back:mad:

the B+ fuse if ya have one is generally close to the stand=by switch... in the circuit it's generally right before or after the switch... doubt that a reset will help.. but cant hurt either... when a fuse blows that means that something has sucked up a major hit of current...

Does anyone know how much it might cost to take it to an amp doctor. Don't really want to get shocked:D

This took a few minutes to find. I don't know if anyone there will be able to speak English, but you might want to give it a shot. Good luck!
