Help! Mr-8 wav xfer?

I am trying to copy my stereo wav file (traks7&8) to my PC but when I try to copy it or drag it to another folder I get a message saying that says :


Cannot Copy (songname)The Parameter is incorrect.

Anyone else encounter this? I can only import tracks 7 and 8 seperatley but I want them together as my one wav file!

Ps I have windows Xp using the USB cable

Yeah thats the thing..I have been. I will try again after restarting..thanks for the help tough If I can get it to work I will post my first recording:)

I wonder if somethjing went wrong with the wav file creation, the music cust out 25 seconds into the song and judging by the timing of the error I get it would be at about that time in the data xfer I think I will try to recreate the wav file again. I guess I better delete it and try again.

The same thing just happened to me, but it waited until the file was within a couple of seconds of finishing the download...Luckily I had some room at the end of the file where I went back to the mr-8 and re-bounced to 7-8 and recreated the wav..minus that last few seconds and it went through ok. Another thing is I was listening to the tune as I was trying to copy the file. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not but I waited until the tune was done before I tried to copy it the last time.
 
upon closer inspection, the song stops playing in my computer (any application) around 21-23 seconds. I tried cutting out the whole intro of the song thus creating a new wave file and the new arrangement even cuts out at the same time! 21-23 sec).

The error number is 80080057 and microsoft's website does not have any info on this error. ARGH! The only thing I can do now is back up my tracks, reformat the card and send them back to 7-8 and create another wav file. We'll see if this works (crossing fingers)

when I play tracks 7 and 8 seperately, there are no problems. I wonder if the problem is with the stereo wav file creation. Since you have had the same problem I wonder if this is an issue with all of the mr-8s? Hopefully a software upgrade will help if fostex can get their website to work. Now if I can figure out why I cannot export these tracks back to the mr-8 using the wav manager......
 
I just did a wav conversion, and there was no problems at all. I'm wondering if your flash card is full? I'm using windows ME, usb connection, and I could drag n drop to my desktop with no problem.

Well I had to blow away all of the other tracks (except 7 and 8) just to do the wave coversion. I figured since the coversion was successful on the mr-8, that meant that I had enough room.

At the time I had done the original wave conversion, I had plenty of room on the card....I'm wondering if you were listening to the track while trying to save it to the computer also..I am half way suspecting that as the problem. I have since done another conversion with no problems.

hmm well I have tried it without listening to it and the same results. I perhaps will try recording another song.

Does anyone know if Fostex even monitors their site? As much trouble as I had with the Tascam, at least there was a Tascam rep responding to posts almost everyday and explaining what, and what was not, possible regarding upgrades.

I mean, are we going to be surprised someday with a Fostex OS upgrade that will fix the amp sims, tighten up the panning, make the undo file optional, etc.?

Yeah I guess for right now we are on our own with this thing. Besides the wav problem (which by the way I have found a way around by downloading crystal audio engine for free and combining my imported tracks 7 and 8 to make a stereo wav file.


MRX,I have been reading your posts on the tascam site as well and your feedback has helped me make the decision to purchase the MR-8, overall I am really pleased with it!

Wow - nice to know someone was listening over there! If you don't need the built in MIDI (which is really cheesy), the MR-8 just sounds so much better that the PS5.

I hope Fostex gets the message and takes a similar involvement. The answers from Jace (Tascam rep) were almost always disappointing, but at least people kind of knew where they stood. I noticed that the Fostex site has a page for OS upgrades for other recorders, so I have to believe this one can be patched the same way.

(It always cracked me up how some of those Tascam owners claimed the PS5 was the best thing going since the OS was 'upgradable' - like it isn't on all of these units! And then, it turned out the stuff people really wanted couldn't be done because of 'hardware issues' - OOPS!)

Yeah I just couldn't get past the sounds and the fact that you cannot (really) change the songs too muc. That is why I bought a Boss Dr-5 since I need a drum machine anyway.

Let's hope that fostex makes somewhat of an attempt to improve their website and maybe upgrade the OS. At least until then I have a way around them. You are right about the sound.

Do you recall the message the computer gave when you had the trouble? Was it something about the "parameter"? I'm still trying to figure this thing out. Although it only happened once, that's not to say it will never happen again. I'm wondering why after I clipped that little bit off the end, I was able to download.

yeah this was the exact message:

Cannot Copy (songname)The Parameter is incorrect.


assuming the songname will be your songname. Microsoft link to their troubleshooting website had no info on this kind of error (you think that they would be fully aware of the launch of the mR-8 and anticipate all the error messages that this new OS and software would generate and have those solutions on their website ready for users like us to have all of this figured out!?)

All kidding aside let me know if you experience this again. I will try to record another song and reapeat the process.

I just recorder another quick song and moved the stereo wav file to my computer with no porblems at al, of course it was only 45sec long not 4 min but I am still encouraged.

I have had the same problem with the same error message and had to export the mono wav files using wav manager into cakewalk before mixing into a stereo wav file.

I've also noticed that people are having the same problems and posting them on the Fostex BBS.

From what you are saying, it sounds like you need some capacity left on the CompactFlash card when you are transferring files (or at least the Stereo WAV file) from it. Perhaps Windows creates a temporary file on it whilst copying files...

Hope they find a fix soon...

?? Is the Fostex BBS up (Official Fostex website and running?)

Well I have pushed the memory to the limit with other songs and not had that problem yet it still happens once in a while so it seems almost random. I am hoping that fostex will release an OS upgrade someday.

At least we have othe ways to work with this thing:)
