I just built my own computer so i feel really stupid to ask but i'll bear that. Its top of the line and has unlimited upgrading capability. one problem. it has a soundcard built into the motherboard. Thoughts?
Also I have a carvin 12 channel mixer with tape in and tape out. How do i connect the two with the best posible quality. also a good software compatible with win2000 at a 200 dollar pice range. if you im me im using earthlink
not Aol anymore

I play in a 3 piece and want to get good sounding recording, do i need more than just software to connect the two and is there any way to bypass my soundcard and use a better one? Thanx

You can disable the onboard audio if you choose to get a better card....which I recommend.
Your mixer can be tied to your PC audio card no problem. Just get the right cable. The mixer outs...are they RCA connects ? And your onboard sound card should be 1/8" line in.

but

and what about a good software for recording live sound. I mic everything and we all play at once. is there one specifically for that

There is a pile of software to choose from. Sonar and N-Track are popular choices. I use Logic Audio but a lot of folks dont like the learning curve. I would try some of the demo's out there and see what you like.
If you intend to play and record live you have 2 options. You can run it all thru the mixer and record to one track or you will need a multi-input interface to record the tracks seperately...like a delta 66 or 1010 for example.
