At the end of the month we're hosting a Halloween cover show like we do every year but this year I want to record it. My team is shooting it and I want to provide live quality audio for them. I have never recorded a live show before.

The show is taking place at a very well equipped and great sounding venue. The room is large, the stage is high and the sound system is great.

I would like to know the best way to go about doing this. Here is what I have to work with:

-1 pair of Cascade Fatheads
-5 sm57s
-1 e609

-Really nice preamp
-Really nice compressor
-ART MPA Gold with Telefunken Soft plate tubes

This will all run through my interface and into my laptop.

On first thought, I was thinking the best way I would do this would be to use the fatheads alone is one format or another from the back of the room running them through my RNP.

That's why I am asking now, how would you go about it?

****I don't think I am going to bother the sound guy at all and try to run out of his console into mine. I think I would prefer to do this somehow as a live thing and get the best sound possible.

Thanks!

Matrix with the Fatheads and the soundboard mix out. That gives you at least a little leeway about how much of the room is in the final recording. I'd mic from the soundbaord location.
