Help me with my studio!

Hey..i figured i'd post this in the newbie fourm because this is my first post. I've been a lurker for a while (like a year) just reading and getting tips, but now i have a question. I'm seriously considering taking out a loan and totally upgradeing my studio. Currently i run cakewalk, but i've been useing pro tools at school. The rig we have is the pro tools control 24. I like this rig and would like to master it on my own, but i hear lots of other guys saying it dosen't sound as good as other setups. Anyone have a recomendation or anything? This is like a total leap for me and i'm wondering if i'm just gonna wind up slapping myself in the face after upgrading in thousands of dollars of stuff! Anyone else use the control 24? I'll obviosuly have to buy a G4 or G5 (anyone use the G5 for recording before?) Any help or pointers or tips would be greatly greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't go into that much debt unless I knew that the new rig would make me money to pay it off before I had to upgrade.
